He was by far my favorite democrat-turned-conservative journalist.  Sadly he lost his battle with cancer today.
Passing of one of the last old guard no B.S. journalist/commentators that actually had dignity and integrity.

As more and more of these guys go the farther and farther our media falls down into the septic tank.

Said to see the way things ended for him, he overcame a lot with his disability and was so well thought out and well spoken.

A great, wise, extraordinary man. His passing hits close to home. May he rest in peace.

Yes, he was a Democrat turned conservative, and he also was one of the few brave conservatives who spoke the truth about our current president.
A truly, truly thoughtful man.
He was very wise and logical. He was willing to challenge his own views on facts, not feelings - and willing to change to a more thoughtful position.

I always enjoyed his commentary but not sure what you mean by the "truth about our current president". Maybe he spoke your opinion about him. CK was ill for most of his presidency and wasn't an active contributor to FNC, so unfortunately we didn't get to hear his commentary when POTUS really started thriving and getting things done. I think Krauthammer would have been proud of Trump.

RIP Charles.

lol ... you are so desperate for Donald approval you're trying to attribute positive thoughts from a dead man. Talk about reaching.

Krauthammer was not so sick that he couldn't see Trump for who he was. He called him a "rodeo clown" among very many other things. That was part of Charles' courage - even though he worked for Fox he went against the tide of sycophantic drivel of conservative talk radio and called out Trump over and over.

You are delusional if you think CK would have approved of the clown show that is the Trump presidency. Did you ever actually watch or read Krauthammer?

RIP Charles.

He explained, very eloquently, why he voted for neither Trump or Clinton. If you read that, and his columns up until around August of last year, and think he would be proud of Trump, you're as biased towards your own opinion as you say I am towards mine.
Quote:A future trivia question and historical footnote, the spectacular 10-day flameout of Anthony Scaramucci qualifies as the most entertaining episode yet of the ongoing reality show that is the Trump presidency. (Working title: “The Pompadours of 1600 Pennsylvania.”) But even as the cocksure sycophant’s gobsmacking spectacle stole the show, something of real importance took place a bit lower on the radar.

At five separate junctures, the sinews of our democracy held against the careening recklessness of this presidency. Consequently, Donald Trump’s worst week proved a particularly fine hour for American democracy. . . .

Trump is a systemic stress test. The results are good, thus far.

But that was SC1's point. Look at the date, nearly a year since his last column.

As far as conservative critics of Trump, there are plenty. They tend to spin things against him, so claiming "truth about our current president" is a stretch.

In your quote, the implication that the "sinews of our democracy" are in danger is a prime example of such spin. Trump has followed the Constitutional limits of the president far better than any of the last three presidents. Obama was by far the worst in that regard, making up laws on his own through executive orders and departmental edicts.
Most conservatives do not like Trump at all as a person, but are wise enough to recognize how well he's doing the job of President.

You think our resident lefties are even capable of understanding that a person's opinion can change over time? Adam's political opinions haven't changed or matured since he was in diapers.
Can we please keep this one thread on topic and not turn it into a Trump hissy fit?

Why change now?

If you think this is a Trump hissy fit then you really don't know much about the subject of the thread.

All you need to do is research and read some of Krauthammer's columns. He was able to separate and acknowledge things Trump did that he agreed with and the negative effect of the man and his personality.

Certainly not on the country.  For that, the lunatic left is to blame.  He's had an overwhelmingly positive effect on the country (and the world as well.)
I don't know how I missed this. Krauthammer was one of the great journalists and commentators of his day specifically because he was willing to examine an argument and decide it for himself on merit more often than not, not just parrot the expected party line as so many "journalists" on both sides of the spectrum do today. His voice and input will be missed as we creep ever closer towards the end of objective journalism and into the realm of bought and paid for reporters and stories that tell you what to think, not stories that make you think.
