I thought Gipson played at a Pro Bowl level last year, not sure where the angst us coming from.
Angst? Not from me.
I am quite happy with Gipson's play, with the notable exception of the AFCCG.
As I indicated, it was a knee jerk response to Gipson not playing and being expensive, while Harrison is young, cheap and earning rave reviews.
What is far more likely to happen is that Harrison replaces either Gipson or Church next season.

Now, that player can be called whatever the hell the Defense wants, but to me the title is very telling as to how the Offense thinks.
When the Offense refers to a Nickel SAM, what they are looking for is the guy that is Coverage first but is looking to support the Run defense -or- is Run support first and is going to have to cover. In other words, who is the guy that is out of place? Find him and give him hell. If he's light, run at him. If he's big, make him run.
The emergence of Harrison as a player that can fit either role and not require substitution due to personnel changes is a huge boon for this Defense.
As I recall, you have been a proponent of this overall approach for some time.
Absolutely. This type of player, to me, is what has led to the development of the 4-2-5 Defense where a team swaps out a LB type for a SS type. Now, understand that it just may be the same player who swaps, but his alignment and assignments are changed.

Arizona did this with Deon Buchannon right?
And then I think the Rams tried it with that Bama S when they got him from the Bucs but it didn't work as well... Barron maybe?
It just gives the Jags more flexibility when it comes to matching up against teams. I love it. Bryan, Chark and Harrison are a pretty good 1 2 3. Not as good as Jalen Jack and Yan but pretty good so far.

I am happy with what I've seen of Chark and Harrison and what I've heard regarding Bryan, and they do give us depth and flexibility, but they have a LONG way to go before being close to considered with that 2016 draft trio.
I don't say that as a knock on you-or them for that matter.
I say it out of admiration for Ramsey, Jack, and Ngakoue.
Before that draft, Ramsey and Jack were the subjects of some pre draft advocacy on this board and elsewhere.
The Jaguars and the fans (mostly) were ecstatic landing just Ramsey.
Then when we wound up with Jack, the board overall was delirious. Landing just those two were more than we could have realistically hoped for pre draft.
But then when Ngakoue became the DE we love and desperately needed...man oh man.
I sincerely hope this 2018 trio becomes every bit the trio the 2016 group did. I'm greedy that way.
