He should have a very impactful year. Seeing him in the running for DPOY would not shock me.
Impressive for a guy who can't tackle and only has one knee.
I am stoked to hear analysts think our defense can be considered among the all time greats.
For additional perspective, that 1970s Steel Curtain defense of Pittsburgh had nine (9) Pro Bowlers on it. Though Simms excluded this team from his consideration I figured it was worth a look.
L.C. Greenwood
Mean Joe Greene
Jack Ham
Jack Lambert
Mel Blount
Mike Wagner
Glen Edwards
J.T. Thomas
This was from the 1976 team that, while they did not make the Super Bowl, is widely considered the best of that dynasty. All eight of the guys listed were first team All Pro.!!!
Right now, our Jaguars defense has eight (8) Current or former Pro Bowlers on it, not counting Myles Jack.
Campbell,
Jackson
Dareus
Ngakoue
Smith
Bouye
Ramsey
Gipson
Restricting that comparison to the era Simms restricted it to, lets look at that 1991 Eagles team, which was downright frightening...
It had 5 Pro Bowlers, per Pro Football reference, though I am not tntirely sure of the accuracy here because it lists Jerome Brown on that team and, IIRC, he died in an auto accident that offseason.
Reggie White
Jerome Brown
Clyde Simmons (yes that one)
Seth Joyner
Eric Allen
That 2002 Bucs defense had 5 Pro Bowlers
Simeon Rice
Warren Sapp
Derrick Brooks
Shelton Quarles
John Lynch
That 2000 Ravens team had 3 Pro Bowlers
Sam Adams
Ray Lewis
Rod Woodson
If this team can better defend the run and deep pass and stay healthy, it seems it could fit in just fine with these other defenses.

Me and Jags02 started the "can't tackle stuff"
We was wrong.
I also thought he couldn’t tackle. He looked like he liked to bump and push more than wrap up. I’m also glad I was wrong.

Way to eat crow fellas. Don't see that too much on these boards.
Usually people just fire back with excuses instead of admitting being wrong

LOL.
There's way too much material out there for me to try to get away with that!
It wouldn't surprise me, but it would be VERY difficult to do. Last time a MLB won the award was 2005-Urlacher. The past 6 have been DE's including our very own Calais last season, and before that was Suggs and Matthews as OLB's in a 3-4... essentially the main pass rusher. Sack guys seems to get the most votes for the award.

Long time fellows. Trust everyone's summer is going well.
Just to clarify: Campbell won the Pro Football Writers Association's DPOY 2017 award.
Aaron Donald won the AP's version, the one that is announced by the league at the awards ceremony before the superbowl.
In 2016 and 2015, Khalil Mack and JJ Watt were the respective winners, but unlike last year, they received the award from both organizations.

I chimed on it as well. His first year all he was looking for was the big hit and very rarely wrapped up. I’m glad he’s learned to make the safe tackle when needed.
Jack is so overrated here. He started playing good by the end of the season but he is far from being a Probowler or All Pro.

Is that why pretty much every NFL analyst expects him to have a monster year?
I don’t think he wins it his year. He’s still very raw but that’s to be expected when he played a lot of RB in college. I expect him to take a huuuuge step this season. I’m going to take a bite of the Crow if there is any left. I wasn’t too thrilled with the selection of Jack in 2016 and him not playing much his rookie year was discouraging but he is thankfully stepping it up

No, that's why he wasn't a Pro Bowler or All Pro this past season.

He shared the position last year with Poz. He is now the fulltime MLB.

Coaching matters.

lulz hot take sister
Gonna be hard for anyone on this team to win DPOY... Too many good players on this D that will take votes from each other.
