According to PFT...yes.

Quote:It’s still not clear whether that was the case. Multiple sources have suggested the Dolphins pursued Bridgewater. Others insist the Dolphins didn’t.
The Jaguars, per one source, also were involved to some degree. The specific extent isn’t known.
Regardless, no one was planning to make Bridgewater a starter. And, in theory, he could still be traded by the Saints to another team, if that team’s starting quarterback suffers a serious injury.

(Emphasis added)

Taking the above at face value, assuming the Jaguars were interested in Bridgewater, they weren't interested in making him a starter.

Assuming they were interested in Bridgewater, they weren't interested enough to beat the Saints' offer of a 3rd round pick for him.

Is there a chance the team could later decide Bortles warrants replacement?  Sure.

Is it possible other QBs could become available by 4pm whether through being cut/waived or traded?  Yes.

But the fact the Jaguars actually re-signed Bortles to a new 3 year contract and the fact the Jaguars did not make a serous play for another QB this offseason or preseason speaks volumes.

So Bortles haters, bottom line is that barring injury, Bortles is this team's QB for the foreseeable future.
That's to be expected. I don't foresee how a QB just walks into our team and starts over Bortles barring injury.

Of course, but within the larger context of the offseason-and last year-it's clear at this point:

1) the Jaguars don't see Bortles as the liability so many of his haters do; and/or

2)  The QBs available were not worth the asking price to give Bortles competition.

Either way, he's our QB, and I am rooting like hell for him to succeed.
We don't know the extent of the interest. But, no front office worth a darn isn't going to look at every option available to them if they believe it improves the roster. It could have been a simple phone call to see what it would cost.

Ultimately, we've known for a while now that the team is committed to Bortles as their starter. I think any viewpoint that he was a liability was shed by this front office last season. The naysayers have their opinions. The people who actually make the decisions have theirs.
I don't see why the team would be interested in trading for him and his current contact at all. It's too high for a backup (six million). I could have seen them talking to him when he was a free agent, though, and coming in as a true backup with a true backup salary. He likely originally thought he'd be starting in NY for some reason.

The saints are absolute morons for trading for him.

As FBT said; it may have been a simple phone call. I could see the Jags giving up a low round pick just for insurance (Bortles injury/complete crash and burn). But a third round? Nope

I think he would have been a clear upgrade over Kessler, and I like Kessler.

But did the team think he would have been a clear upgrade over Bortles, which is what Bortles haters are hoping for?  Obviously not, otherwise the team would have signed him without trading for him during the summer, or they would have been willing to give up at least a 3rd to get him from the Jets.

Any trade for that contract would have been ridiculous. Like I said, any interest in him by the Jaguars was probably during free agency for a deal more like what Henne when he was here. Third round picks have real value for teams that draft well, the saints got absolutely worked on that deal, how stupid are they?
I would imagine the conversation went something like this...

Caldwell: "Hey, nice job finding Bridgewater. I hear you guys might be interested in trading him?"
Jets' GM: "Yep, we've got an offer on the table for a three."
Caldwell: "Hey, nice job finding Bridgewater. See you in week four."

He doesn’t have to be a clear upgrade. He just needed to be better than Kessler, should something drastic happen with Bortles. But again, that’s only worth to me a 6th or 7th round pick.
their intrest was limited to pft's imagination so they dont look stupid for saying jax was a landing spot for Teddy

This is what we all should be doing. Complaining about him isn't going to do any good so why not root for him.

Fairly stupid, they traded two first rounders for  Davenport .

Due diligence. Also the fact that this team is in contention right now and may have some hard cuts to make after this season, the last thing you want is to feel like you have to punt on the season if Bortles goes down. I like Kessler, but he's more of a spot start guy if Bortles misses a week here or there. Bridgewater is the type of guy that I think could succeed in managing an actual playoff game with our running attack and defense.

That said, I wouldn't have traded anything more than a sixth for a guy on a one year deal who you ideally never have to see on the field.

So you have to hate him to think he is a liability? Good lord you're one of those people huh? Time to put you on ignore. Thanks for exposing yourself!  Banana

Putting another 6 mill on the salary cap and losing a draft pick would only make what's coming next year worse. The idea that the Jaguars would even consider such a move seems ridiculous.

As long as it was accidentally picking up the phone and answering the call instead of allowing it to go to message machine, I sort of doubt the Jaguars would risk a potential discovery that they had any kind of doubts in Bortles. Or one of those situations where Caldwell picked up the phone to order pizza and found no dial tone, but one of Bridgewater's career placement specialists on the other end.

Bortles has an inferior back-up incapable of challenging him at any time. Bridgewater's career placement specialists have Saints' game checks to carve up.

All is right with the world, no doubt.

They wouldn't have been looking at Bridgewater to replace Bortles, but as usual, thanks for the laugh.

Is English a second language for you?

Was reading comprehension a difficult subject for you?

Re-read what you highlighted.

Did I say ALL of his haters think he is a liability?  Did I say ONLY his haters think he is a liability?  Based upon the text YOU quoted, isn't it possible people could hate Bortles for reasons other than him being a liability?  If you DON'T hate him, but think him a liability similarly to those who DO, what problem do you have with what I typed above?!?

Put me on ignore....PLEASE!
I didn't read any of this thread and I'm not going to.

If this team was interested in Teddy, they would have signed him as a free agent in March.

They obviously didn't sign him and nothing else needs to be said.
