Quote:Yeah I am not sure either.

You're not alone.
I'll have him back on the webs here shortly. I am bouncing  my IP around so as not to "Just get droned". Although I have been seeing a strange black sedan cruising by with a shaky headed, lung hacking, shriveled up beast of a woman in the back seat staring at the house and it is a little concerning.

Seems like Ecuador have cut some kind of deal with the US.

I hope Assange has something up his sleeve, would be a terrible shame if he was ever put behind bars.
Quote:It's amazing how the political left (and the media) thought that Wikileaks was the best thing ever when it was being used to expose Republican politicians and officials, but now that it's been turned on their candidate, it's a threat to national security, meddling by Russia to influence the election and "illegal to read."
I am tempted to create new account so I can agree with this post more.  ;-)  +1
Quote:Actually I've never particularly thought much of Wikileaks.  I mean exposing government corruption is great--don't get me wrong. But Wikileaks isn't about the freedom of information at all.  I mean if it was, they'd have released everything and let people actually read through it themselves and come to their own conclusions.  Instead they come to conclusions for people, and release things in segments.  I mean it'd be one thing if they had to redact information when it put people's lives in danger (that'd make sense) but they don't even do that.  They wouldn't hold back information for when it does the most 'impact' or whatever.

Assange is no Edward Snowden.
I agree with you in principle Doc11 however when you take a step back and see how the globalist owners of the media treat and react to any and all stories that appear outside of their realm of control react, you have to question how the 4th tenant of government is acting in these modern times.

The left did back flips when wikileaks was exposing the Bush administration's transgressions and the right disavowed it.  Now that wikileaks is exposing wrong doings from the left, the right is hailing it and the left is suddenly disavowing it.

Consider that maybe, just maybe Assange is the new 4th tenant of government since the MSM has failed in their duties.

Information overload?
I know that I'm in the minority here by far by thinking that both Assange and Snowden belong behind bars.  Assange for publishing known classified material and Snowden for knowingly stealing and releasing classified material.  That's not to say that I don't think that this ever should have been covered up, but the bottom line is both have broken major laws and should face the consequences for that.

I get where you are coming from however the tenants of our government allow that our media should be exposing this kind of corruption.  The crime to me is that the 4th tenant of government has sold out for one of the other three in situation.  ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC should have been exposing this information but they are backing candidates.  Had any of them been doing their job Assange would even be part of this discussion which to me is the discussion.

Pure an utter nonsense.

My 1st reaction is to call you a moronic shill but as I am attempting to be a kinder and gentler copycat please explain your objection.

When corporations own networks and consolidate thier power, and news is deregulated so that it is driven by profit (it wasn't always this way), you get what we have here.

You can hate the media.  But it's driven by a profit motive and corporations.  Something conservatives are never going to want to fix.

Now, with that said, I'm ambivalent to wiki-leaks.  To me, and I think the vast majority of Americans, the "revelations" about Hillary are non-issues.  I mean, please, if I missed something, let me know.  But the news that's come out now is nothing that we don't already know about Hillary and her moderate conservative position on the economy and free trade.

4th tenant of government? Its absurd that media propaganda has been going for as long as you have lived and longer. They even give an award named after one of the most famous yellow journalist in history.

Media propaganda was at the heart of this nations founding! The media has been directing politics since Thomas Paine wrote "Common Sense".

1. I agree.  The 4th tenant has been sold out by corporate America.  I however refuse to accept this and will continue to demand better

2.  What rank and file conservatives or liberals want to be lied to?  Whom do you know that accept the media as it is in the present day form?  I for one know of no  one that is free thinking that accepts the bias we see at this level every day.

3.  It is attitudes such as this that is part of the problem.  No one should accept this line of reasoning.  You and I and every American should be marching in the street demanding better from our elected representatives however we allow the media to divide us.

Have certain individuals in the media sold out for one side or the other through out history?  Certainly.  Never in history of a free country has the sell out been this bad.  The media used to be about informing the common man so he could be well informed about the issues that affected him.  Not so much these days.  The fact that you not only give this a free pass but defend it is alarming.  I am going to guess you never heard Walter Cronkite live have you?

We're on the same page regarding 1 and 2.

As for 3.  It's complicated.  We should be marching the streets as working people against the wealthy that the politicians are actually representing, you're right.  But we are divided.  It's important to find things we all agree with.  But America, despite what trump thinks is not going to be destroyed under a Clinton presidency.  I would argue that one cannot say the same thing with a trump presidency.

The fact that trump supporters think that Hillary Clinton is a traitor, but cannot provide actual proof shows how insane the whole thing is.  Politicians are politicians, but because they have been bought by the wealthy doesn't mean we need to destroy the whole system.  I have faith in the system that we can change it from within.  You won't be able to do with with trump.

You may be able to do that with Clinton.  And if she fails to make the push towards Bernie after she's elected, she'll be a 1 term president.

Good points.

The consolidation of corporations and the de-regulations of how media can operate brought us here about 30 years ago...  It needs to be fixed.  It's one of the things you will never hear, but it's a fact.
