You're all losing your perspective.  This is the first truly bad game the defense has played all year. Now you guys are all saying they're a waste of space.  The defense is what got us the division title, and, if not for a bad call on Jack's fumble recovery, should have got us to the Super Bowl last year.  Our defense beat the Patriots this year.

We actually DO need to go back to the kind of football Marone said he wanted to play when he got here. Smash mouth defense - man defense. Then, run the ball, and control the clock. And Yeldon was running well today. Can someone tell me why he didn't get more carries?

We need to stop with the *#%# trick plays. Two trick plays today, two players hurt--Paul and Mickens.

I'll say it again-- drop the zone defense. KC and Dallas figured it out, and other teams will too. It's not what we do best. We had six players in the Pro Bowl last year. Let's use their talents and be aggressive.

Our offensive line has problems. I'm extremely disappointed in Norwell. But Walker played better than I thought he would, so that's something.

I'll be happy if we can go into the break at 4-4.  Then, get Fournette back, and win the division.

We can do it.
First truly bad game? Nah chiefs game was that.

I’m not losing sleep over it. In the end it’s football. There are problems with the Jags and Houston is coming to town next week. Lose the game next week and playoffs are probably out of the realm of possibility. It is what it is.
Yeah cant lose a game vs texans or colts and need to beat titans second time for sure.

The problem I have with the trick plays is they are borne of desperation, because they know the OL can't block well enough to sustain any sort of offense over the course of a quarter, much less a game.

I will be thrilled with 5-3 at this stage.

I will be happy with 4-4 if we beat the Texans and somehow get healthier.
What drives me nuts is how everyone seems to hold our dline all game and no calls.
I'm not worried about the defense. This is their first truly bad game of the year. The offense has only had two out of six good games though and I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel there. The best news is that the whole division looks like a dumpster fire so we might sneak into the playoffs anyway.

With the Texas having an above average pass rush and a mobile QB who can make throws, I’m less than confident that we win this Sunday. The blueprint to beating us is out there and the Texans have have the personnel to make that happen.

We really need to bring in someone simply to drop a ref.... accountability! Lol

Agreed.

I saw several instances of blatant holding on Yannick.

There was one point, Smith held him around the waist.  It was like something out of a disco or something.
Today was bad, bad all over but these games happen. I've said before, this isn't a high powered O, it can't take many injuries to still execute effectively and it's starting to show. We've got new additions and a constantly changing roster trying to gel and play at the level of the starter they are replacing.

The coaching was bad, playcalling bad and adjustments bad. Two weeks in a row Now, in big games, we have been out coached and outschemed. The biggest worry I have with that is teams now have a gameplan for us and we may see KC again in January.

The D did ok the first few weeks, the pass rush in particular the first 2 games but the LB and DB's have had problems all year. I'm my sure if it's swapping 4-3 for more Nickel but there's been plenty of miscommunication and blown coverages. Also the DB's aren't challenging the receivers and getting in areas to make picks. Bouye is struggling and Church was a real nice addition last year but again he's been off so far.

But I still have confidence in this team, we had 2 road games and 2 rough L's. It's still only week 6, this season has been crazy so far, so many overtime games, I don't see anyone winning 14 games and I think we'll see teams dropping games you don't expect.

Our main goal is still playoffs, whatever the record, and our best shot is winning the division. Houston have won 3 but 2 in OT at the death and Peterman throwing a pick 6, I don't think they are that good yet. T*tans dropping 2 bad games, we are still more than alive.

Just a real bad day at the office.
Everyone should notice the entire NFL is mediocre this year. We need Norwell to get his head on straight, the LT position stabilize to some degree and Fournette to come back healthy. Norwell is so much better than he’s playing right now, and he and Linder constantly showing up on the injury report shows why. The defense is fine and the least of our worries at this point in time. Sure I’d love more sacks, but they’re keeping teams off the board (#1 in the league prior to this week) and the turnovers will come. They’re too good to be -whatever they are in TO ratio

Totally agree 100%.
The team played a tough road game against a team that needed a win badly. We are signing guys off the street to fill important voids in the middle of the season. The new guys Norwell, Sefarian-Jenkins, Paul, Moncrief have done nothing to improve matters. Norwell is getting eaten alive constantly. I don't know what the difference is how a guy can go from All-Pro at the same position to just bust in one year. Moncrief is never expecting the ball and never gets open. This team lost its best receiving threat in the Preseason in Marqise Lee. Westbrook has been about our only bright spot and then Cole on some occasions. Bortles has lost all confidence in getting a pocket and we can't even stick with the run much because our "vaunted" defense has turned into target practice. Seriously, there are guys just falling down on the snap and then no one anywhere near a receiver. This just says that we've lost our discipline and aren't trusting our teammates or scheme. Guys are playing outside themselves and all we can do is watch the train wreck. The only reason we can still be hopeful is our division is pretty much a joke and we have only played one division game thus far. This week's game against Houston at home is a must win game in my opinion for this season to live up to any expectations the people outside had.
The problem is there are no fixes that they will make.

Defense- Walsh is killing the defense that somehow can't communicate the call and stay in the right spots. How is the defense confused if everything is the same?

STOP PLAYING ZONE. ..... REPEAT ..... STOP PLAYING ZONE.

Multiple weeks of communication issues playing zone should tell the coaches to stop. Put the players, the best secondary and 1 of best DL, in positions to use their physical abilities to make plays. Stop making them have to think and communicate on who to cover and who to pass off.

The LBs are awful this year. They are slow to react, taking bad angles, and getting abused when in zone by everyone.

Offense- playcalling is terrible.
Any deep or back shoulder throws to Moncrief should result in immediate firing and benching of the QB. He sucks, stop wasting plays by throwing to him.

I thought the Jags were a running team? Yet they continue to abandon the run game. Who cares who the RB is, if it is working don't stop doing it.

The OL can't block, so who calls slow developing and deep routes? Fire them and get someone who can call quick passes when the defense is stacking the box.

The players haven't been great and Blake has been poor, but the coaches are putting the Jags in losing positions.

The Cowboys game sucked. No question about it.

However, if the Jags can go 4-4 heading into the BYE week, I'll take it. Jags were 3-3 last year and it appears no team wants to take over the AFC South. Get Fournette healthy to bring some balance back into the offense. Defense stops running zone and stops DROPPING LINEMAN INTO COVERAGE ON 3RD DOWNS.

Season is clearly not lost but things need to turn around and it starts this Sunday against the Texans.
Win against the Texans and you have a good chance of going top of the division, titans are playing the chargers in LA.
Yeah. It was really bad in Dallas. Bad play from players. Bad calls from coaches. Lack of adjustment on most of the ugly stuff. Haven't seen this defense look so out of sorts since Marrone took over.

While help may not be on the way very soon for the offense, the defense is still a very good unit that should be able to get their act together. Playing less zone and containing the QB more effectively need to be part of the equation as everyone suggests, but the players need to improve their communication and not blow assignments as well. That performance yesterday wasn't just "too much soft zone" it was a soft effort from several members of the defense IMO.

I think the D can get it put back together. The offense may need some new smoke and mirrors.
