What's 28+3?
You said "players are
walking en masse..." That is present tense. If you meant three freakin years from now you should have said so.

To your credit I was under the impression Jackson was under contract til 2020 not 2021. So in hindsight I'd word it differently. We probably restructure his contract without knowing the exact cap hits for each year. Obviously main concern is freeing up money for Ramsey, Ngakoue, Jack and Fowler contracts. The rest is collateral if need be.
I think it's safe to say our season flew down the gutter at super sonic speed. With Blake starting at Wembley we can only hope the benching was a big wake up call. I don't know how all of a sudden the offensive line looked better with Kessler in the game but Houston was forced to play conservative on defense. Back to the drawing board for next year. Pretty absurd didn't expect to be in this position so soon again but may as well start talking about the draft.

Keeping Ramsey, Ngakoue and Jack will mean letting another pricey player go. I believe Jackson would be the last pricey defender they'd release to clear cap space.
Campbell and Dareus make more sense, but they'll need to keep drafting big defenders to fill their shoes in this scheme.
Fowler is playing well in rotation, but keeping him is a luxury att his point and he's more likely to be the first defender that's eager to test free agency from this team.
Aaaaggghhhh!

This isn't funny anymore. If I ran the Jags, I would call up Terrell Owens and ask him how much he wants for that hyperbaric chamber he employed to get ready for Super Bowl XXXIX. Then I would grab a Ford F-150 or Toyota Tundra from one of the offensive linemen (that's usually what those dudes drive, save for the oddball Jetta-owning center) and haul that sucker over to Leonard Fournette's house. This offense is D.O.A without its stud tailback. Blake Bortles frittered away all the chill vibes from his strong showing in the playoffs, fumbling twice Sunday before getting benched. Keelan Cole lent his quarterback a helping hand(s) -- by not using his.

Except the OL wasn't better.
Kessler was sacked 4 times and fumbled.
Also Houston wasn't forced to play conservative... Any team can do that up 3 scores in the 2nd half... It's an insurmountable lead for this offense right now.
They played a lot of off zone stuff with Kessler in, knowing he'd just dink and dunk, eat up the clock and not do much.
I'm ready to move on from Blake as much as the next guy. But Kessler didn't really do much to get so many people thinking he's going to actually put Ws up considering so many other pieces on offense are performing so badly.
Right now, Bortles is the dude. Kessler may get the reigns after London... but I wouldn't bank on it.
Hopefully next year, someone else is, at least waiting in the wings.

Kessler's definitely not the guy that's going to come into a game down 3 scores and lead a team to victory while a very scary pass rush can 100% pin their ears back.
But you give him an even score from the start, mix it up offensively, let him make the easy throws that Blake struggles with so much with, move the chains and let the D stay rested, etc...I think Kessler might be able to do that.

I guess. I just don't know why people think he's going to be able to do that.
He didn't in Cleveland (yeah I know their roster was trash, with injuries, ours isn't much better)
In theory it sounds great. But with this OL... he isn't going to fare much better.
PERHAPS he keeps drives together a bit more with dink and dunk and keeps our D off field a bit more.
Maybe.
Otherwise, I think he just gets sacked 6 times and probably still never musters more than 6 YPA
My only issue with having Kessler as a backup is why have a guy that can only dink and dunk? Is BB5 so fragile that even a guy that can make throws is a threat? This is why we are in trouble and blowing our once in a decade chance. I felt about this bad in 1999 walking out of the stadium after the Titans dumped us for a 3rd time. You knew the window was closed.

The thing is he actually did do it in Cleveland. His rate+ stats are all averageish, except he had elite level comp% and INT%. If you could magically teleport those exact rates from Browns Kessler into our team right now it would be successful.

Also think it's a fair to point out he was a rookie too.

Yes I have mentioned he was a rookie back then many times too. Also, he shockingly excelled against pressure.
