The coaches can't catch the ball for our inept receivers.
No but they could find a way to use the RB the front office traded to acquire. I guess our shallow cross and shotgun offense is to complicated for Carlos to pick up.
(10-28-2018, 12:28 PM)jagman Wrote: [ -> ]Does anyone on this board agree with me when I say Blake is not the only problem. The play calling is bush league. For some reason they refuse to run the ball and our defense is way over-rated.
It's impossible to put this game on Blake. for the most part he was accurate, he protected the football (0 turnovers), made a few nice throws, extended plays/drives with his legs. And on top of all of that WR's dropped passes Cole & Chark in the endzone, killing drives with that fumble (Cole...) and they had trouble protecting Bortles allllll dayyyy, Walker looked like a 3rd string LT. We're too depleted to be effective. Bortles showed when he has a healthy line and the skill players around him dont shoot themselves in the foot.. we can beat good teams like the Patriots. Bortles can be good but we need to do a better job protecting him, protecting the football and executing the basics of football like gee idk catching the football. Blake has his meltdown turnover games when he feels he needs to do too much and make a play because nothing else is happening around him. Blake has been successful and I believe he can be successful.
Defensively we're good just not deep. We need a new NT, and maybe a heavier LB because we get run on in the teeth of our defense far too often. We're really thin at CB, Jalen & Bouye have been playing hurt, we were 2-0 in games Hayden played, Patmon looked solid especially for a 4th CB and young player, Meeks showed me a lot today ... so of course him and Patmon are now hurt. The pass rush gets pressure but doesn't finish rushes, and gets too undisciplined in their rush lanes which allows the QB to bust out and move the chains for chunk plays. They also aren't really finishing the catch on Interceptions, fumbles get called the other way or "down" bc that's our luck. They need the offense to get more time of possesion to keep them fresh bc we're already starting our backups... there is no one to rotate to to keep them fresh if our offense can only muster a handful of plays before a kick.
We just don't have the depth to sustain injuries that plague specific positions. LT's, TE's, RB & CB like those 4 units are all decimated and there are other bangups here and there. It's just not our year, if you can upgrade the CB without giving up too much... yea go for it. But otherwise help is not on the way, we can win with blake if we invest more in our Oline & depth, and actually RUN THE BALL. Fournette and Hyde can be a 2007 type rushing attack, lets just give them the ball.
Ok bye week. Time to get rested and do some soul searching... re establish our offensive identity. This team just looks stupid. You can't rely on Bortles throwing to these back-up quality receivers and tight ends all day.
They should have another players only meeting

3-5, try and get healthy on the bye and then give it a go and see what happens.
Back to November draft talk. Man seems like years ago that we dominated the Pats. Houston's division for the foreseeable future. We blew it again.
We get 1 year every decade and each time it is a loss to Brady in the AFC Championship that drives the nail in the coffin. Good thing he can't play forever but we only have 8 years to have Mahomes and Watson grow into the position while we waste everything.
It really does, this team looks exhausted after 8 weeks. I think they thought they would get to the playoffs and then turn it up but the injuries are hurting and we don't have the depth for it to not have an effect. It's a wake up call to EVERYONE with the Jags that we aren't that good yet.
Last year we had a lot of things go in our favour and we played well and aggressive and this year it's going the opposite. It's starting to feel like a once a decade thing, going to be an interesting bye week, I wouldn't be surprised to see a new OC but I think they'll say Hackett hasn't had his O this year yet.
I really thought we had turned the corner though, this team needs tweaking not tearing apart.
can we talk poz out of retirement

Poz isn't coming back to this dumpster fire..

The run d would be better, but I don't think he helps anything else.

Can Poz catch a pass, block a pass rusher or make accurate throws?
Are we really acting like the defense is bad if they actually allow a single point? They gave this offense plenty of opportunities which they did nothing with. 2 early turnovers to build a lead and they muster 3 points.

Pretty much this. For the third time (after Titans and Chiefs game) they abandon the run for no reason. Hackett has disappointed me big time this season.
I just can't understand, last year they were running Fournette over and over at times, even when he got one yard on first down. This year, either when we are averaging 6 yards per carry or when we are up or close like today they just refuse to run at all.
Final drive was a perfect exemple, 2nd&2, 4 down territory from the 50 yards and 4 minutes to go and we didn't run once. Were we planning to give the ball back to Philly with plenty of time even if we scored? Whatever...

Yeah this. I know let's waste more draft picks before the deadline and then refuse to use the acquired players.
We build a team based around the running game and then don't run the ball. Seems logical.

There was multiple times in this game where we had 2nd and 2, 3rd and 1, 3rd and 2 etc. and they kept throwing the ball... Like seriously??? It makes zero sense.

Who cares?
The run defense isn’t an issue right now. There are so many other problems and 90% are on the offensive side.
The worst thing was that there wasn't even any threat of the run. Pre snap it was so obvious we were passing. Makes it a lot easier for the defense to stop us of they know exactly what we are gonna do.

obviously you did not watch the game today. 70% was play calling and the rest was on run defense we got gashed today

Sounds like Marrone has no confidence in his offensive line and result is few run calls.
Whatever, really...
