I first saw this on the news crawler, which called it a two-car collision. Dennis Byrd, the Jets DE who was paralyzed at Kansas City and fully recovered, was only 50.

RIP Dennis.

Horrible news.

Dennis Byrd has been an inspiration to many, many people.  He will be greatly missed.

I can imagine how difficult yesterday's news is for Jeff Lageman,  who was on the same Defensive Line with Dennis Byrd for several seasons.

Doubly difficult for him because he also knew Quentin Groves through his current job. I did not know Lageman was a Jet before joining the Jaguars.

It was indeed a difficult day.

Jeff Lageman was taken by the Jets in the 1st Round of the 1989 Draft.   The pick wasn't looked upon favorably by many Jets fans and Mel Kiper Jr.,  who thought the Jets reached for Lageman.   That's when Kiper and then Jets GM Mike Hickey had words.
It is an even more difficult day for the Byrd family and the entire Jets organization.

If you were a real Jags fan you would know that.

RIP Byrdman, what a tough life you had.

I think he had a monumental life full of achievement. While he had his share of struggles, it seems on the surface that he faced and overcame those struggles with courage and conviction. If there is anyone deserving of being labeled a hero, Dennis Byrd is it.

 Well said, Deacon!

One of the many things that impressed me the most about Dennis Byrd is his concern for others even when facing his own life altering adversity.
