My son has moved to Bridgton, Maine and is finding out that living in the woods produces a lot of power outages from falling trees/limbs, etc.

I know a lot of you have dealt with hurricane preparations including generators- any advice on what he should look for?

Thanks
What does he want to do with it back up the entire home or just easentials? He's in Maine so what kind of heating options does he have is the generator needed to heat the home in a power outage? Finally what's his budget?

Depending on those questions you can narrow down how big of a unit and what type of fuel it'll use. If it's not a cost issue the whole home generator backup with an automatic switch is the way to go. The usally run on LP or natural gas.
If you are thinking of purchasing a generator that will cost you 1000 or more, save up and get a whole home generator. That is my biggest regret not doing that.
