There's better stuff to watch as week. For example Sunday night used to be a football night for me, then the the walking dead came around and it's not even close I'm taking the zombies.
So people who protest peacefully are "lecturing" others who are bothered, while those who riot are thugs.

Also, I see no one talking about all the money the NFL made from profits of Breast Cancer, and how the Military paid the NFL during its Salute to Service month which the league was forced to hand back only a fraction of.

That's because we hate black people.
It seems like there is 5 minutes of commercials for every 2 minutes of gameplay. It's incredibly boring to sit thorugh that many commericals over the course of a few hours.

The officiating is terrible. After every big play I'm too busy looking for a flag instead of enjoying the moment.

Oversaturation. Take away those terrible Thursday games.

Make it fun again. Allow celebrations to some degree but when people mock the NFL as the no fun league they certainly have a point.

I think when you combine these factors, it turns casual fans off.

people more and more are cancelling their cable too.

hell, i was really close to switching to PS Vue. it's literally half the price of cable, so I called Uverse and they lowered my bill significantly. i had to commit for a year though. greedy bastards.

Their constant desire for and increase in revenue and new revenue outlets have resulted in three hour broadcasts of games that average around an actual 11 minutes of playtime. their website is unusable due to advertisement. fantasy football is another money grab that has been crammed down the throats of NFL consumers that IMO has hurt the actual game.

How much actual playing time in a football game?

An average professional football game lasts 3 hours and 12 minutes, but if you tally up the time when the ball is actually in play, the action amounts to a mere 11 minutes. Part of the discrepancy has to do with the basic rules of American football.

there is an over-officiating problem. the rules of the game i think are fine, but when you are constantly holding up the game with tick tack penalties... that sucks.

The NFL needs to take a play from the NBA and do all play reviews from a central location. Speeds it up pretty good.

That's crazy when you really break it down.

The worst is TD, commercial, kickoff (touchback), commercial, 3 plays-punt, commercial.

They need to reduce the amount and only have commercials at the end of quarters, timeouts, after TDs, and injuries. No more commercials after a change of possession after a punt or kickoff.

The only way they will learn is if you stop watching.

i think NFL is only league to have referee actually go under a hood and look at a replay

MLB, NCAA, NBA, ??? all have replays reviewed at central location

i know ive lost interest significantly the past five years. today i find myself watching a game and wanting to just go do something else

Other than the jags game at the local bar, I don't really watch many games anymore.

Oh ok. I don't watch MLB, so I didn't know that.

There should also be more review-able plays as well, like PI, or if they aren't going to call it equally, at least don't make it a spot foul.

officials just cant make up their mind it seems if they are going to let them play or call every little nudge or pull

within one game there is a ton of inconsistency. one play a corner gets the smallest tug on a jersey, they call it. the next play the receiver is basically tackled before the ball gets there and its a no call.

Quote:Get rid of some of the commercial breaks. Also the amount of penalties are a killer, particularly the pass interference ones can just kill a game. Some games just seem like they will never end and there's no flow.

The commercial breaks are terrible. From the point where a TD is scored (then a kickoff goes into the end zone for a touch back) to the point where the 1st play is run I timed it 2x and in the 1st case 5:10 elapsed and the other 5:26 elapsed. Over 5 freaking minutes of nothing after a team scores a TD
The fact that there are 20 college games on TV on any given Saturday has me enjoying NCAA Football better. I'd much rather flick between 5 games (for free) then be stuck watching a Tampa Bay vs Chicago 4pm game.

Do the ratings decline take into account people viewing from means other than TV broadcast? Like Sunday Ticket, Game Pass etc...?

Quote:The NFL is like the stock market. Overdue for a correction.

Agreed.

Question. How do they get the results on how many are watching? Phone calls?

Not a clue how it works these days. I know back in the day there would be phone calls, but I would assume cable/satellite boxes can pretty much report real time data about who is watching what, but not sure how that accounts for sports bars or other areas with multiple viewers.
