A free agent named Tyrann Mathieu. He is younger than Gibson and can play both as a FS and at the line of scrimmage. So the flexibility for him and Harrison would be great, along with being a veteran player that can help Campbell on the defensive side of the ball with showing the younger guys how it's done. If they can pull him away from the Tacks in free agency that would be awesome. Just an idea of course.

Hmmmm... I wouldn't be opposed. I need to watch some more Texans film to see how he's been playing this year.

So far this year 78 tackles, 13 asst, 3 sacks and 2 INT's. Game tape watching would be awesome!
Jackson will also probably be cut. I woul keep Dareus and let Gipson walk. Gipson is kinda just a guy.

The consensus opinion is that Jackson, Church, Parnell and Bortles are likely cut and Yeldon will move on to another team. Calais Campbell still has too much to offer so he stays at least one more season. If either Marcell Dareus or Tashaun Gipson need to be cut, which guy would you keep? As it stands now, Dareus will cost about 10.5 million for next season with no cap hit if he's cut and Gipson will make about 9 million but the Jags would take a 1.6 million hit to their cap if he's cut. Both guys are 28 years old, certainly young enough to play for at least 3 or 4 more years at a high level. Which guy to you keep?

With Church cut today. I think you'll want Gipson around another year to help with 2nd year starter Harrison over at SS. I think it'll be tough to see Dareus and Jackson gone next year but I think they'll focus more on Jones and Bryan moving forward as the starting tandem.

Or they'll invest that top ten pick in a little over four months from now on one of the top DL's in the class.

I also don't get the infatuation with the Honeybadger on here either. He's oft injured. Always injury prone. I have also seen him get torched at times in primetime games this year. And from what I heard the tinhorns give him free range to roam around the LOS or to fade back into coverage.

So that's a 50/50 situation there. He may also not leave the tinhorns in the off season. He may stay there if he gets a good taste of the play-offs in about a month from now. Winning is contagious.

If you really want to make a move at safety. Why not Earl Thomas? After landing on IR and the situation Seattle put him in he could be an interesting pick-up. And also, is Todd Wash even here in a few months? Could be looking at a whole new defensive scheme n 2019.

Look, if you ever need any time off, just let me know.

I can easily post your input on just about any thread.  It's always the same.

I could tell you the same thing old man.
I don't know we apparently need to be 5 deep at every position to have a chance... holy injuries.

This ^^^^ to the one millionth degree... Any talk of keeping these scrubs as a starter should be burned at the stake. lol If they want to stay as 3rd stringers, all good. And we definitely need to keep Dareus. I love Gip, but if it comes down to one of the two, I think Gip gotta go. But honestly, I think we should keep both of them.

I wouldn't even keep those two on a Practice Squad.
Would telvin smith make a good safety, he is kind of too small for a nfl linebacker.l, but he would probably be a good to great strong safety.

T Gip is a beast I think he's gonna be here a couple more seasons at least
The whole defense has underperformed this season. Add the undiscipline, injuries, miscommunications....

Gipson is a good FS, Dareus is our best run stopper. Im OK with Church being cut since Harrison can do a better job than him. Same thing with Jackson, we have Bryan and Smoot.

I just don't get why some people want to cut Campbell or Bouye.
Personally I am hoping both stay and think they will.

He wants top dollar, I agree on paying and all pro safety, but IDK, Earl would be great, a long term deal is going to cost us, and he is older than both Gibson and Mathieu. 30yrs old I believe.
I think they will both stay. If I have to pick one I would take Gip. Dareus is already on thin ice with the league office and this is a deep class for DL.

I would also keep Jackson over Dareus, but I understand the numbers aren’t in Malik’s favor.

This.

I like Telvin, but he seems to blow a few assignments in underneath coverage. I would hate to see him responsible for deep coverage against receivers.

Probably not the popular opinion but I wouldn’t be against letting Telvin go and keeping Dareus & Gip. Telvin is quite the liability on the field nowadays. Love the personality but I don’t want him covering anyone in the open field.

They can't. They are stuck with him. 8.5M in dead money if released and only a 4M in savings. They can save 4M from letting ASJ walk which I would prefer over Telvin.

Yeh.... Telvin's knock is his coverage, which he always made up for speed and good tackling.
He's still fast... but he ain't tackling like he has before and he's still a liability in coverage.
I love the dude... but he needs to give some money back to help our cap situation lol

Won't happen... but I would have a talk about restructuring, he has leverage so he doesn't have to, and probably shouldn't.
But man... it'd be real solid of him.

OT: Dareus ain't going nowhere imo. Jackson could be traded cuz while he does still have a hefty tag, he's still a good interior rusher and a team would probably be willing to part with a 4th to not have to battle FA for him...
Gip I don't think will be cut, but I'm feeling pretty good about Wilson's development behind him. When he has been on the field he's done well. As for replacing Gip with a draft pick, I haven't even thought about safeties in the upcoming draft...
Mathieu would be intriguing but as someone else said... might need to look at his season with the tinhorns to get a better idea of if he is actually an upgrade.
