Yes hyde was probably a pointless trade but the oline is the problem here.

I'm not saying Chubb was available, I'm saying the Oline argument is weak because Hyde sucked while on a team with a good Oline while the other RB on that team has led the league in rushing. Point is, he was damaged goods when we bought him and the FO once again failed at the RB position.

Maybe Cleveland are playing better now due to better qb play?

Chubb should be playing better than Hyde too he's a highly drafted player.

Sure Hyde is average that's why we gave away a fifth.

Ok, so... again.. why was he a walking trash can in Cleveland this season? And again let me remind everyone... 3.4 ypc in CLE, and since the trade Chubb has led the league in rushing.

It's very hard for people to just say, ok he's not good anymore. We got robbed by the BROWNS! The damn BROWNS!

They also canned the coach and OC that was contributing to those astounding stats.

Are you saying we need to hire Gregg Williams?

That's the thing.  People want to dismiss this line so they can trash a guy we gave up peanuts to get as an insurance policy.  Had the team given up something of more value, like a 2nd day pick, I might agree.  We gave up a 5th round pick.  The world is not going to stop revolving over this, and my guess is that Hyde might actually remain on the roster heading into OTAs and mini camp to see what he can do in the new offensive scheme.  Right now the only certainty with RB is that Yeldon is gone.  Otherwise, everything is up in the air.  Fournette needs to do some serious soul searching during the break to decide what matters to him.  Hopefully he wakes up and starts to develop into a professional running back.  If he doesn't, you're still going to need a guy like Hyde.

Exactly.  I scratched my head as to why we didn't use Hyde more since he has the potential to be "that" guy.  I can see him remaining for at least OTA's and training camp.

Yeldon is pretty much gone and the jury is out regarding Fournette.  I think that he's probably as good as gone right now, but who knows?  At the very least a message has been sent to him with the team voiding his guaranteed money.

I think he's better than what we saw, but behind that line, new to the entire playbook, you couldn't really expect him to jump in and save the rushing game for this team.  Just wasn't going to happen.  Hyde will be given every opportunity to make this roster next year, especially with Yeldon gone, and Fournette a bit of a question mark.

Even if Fournette departs, there are worse things in life than a Hyde/Grant tandem in the backfield. I'm imagining how effect Grant would be as a second-half home run hitter after a stretch of pounding by Hyde.

Maybe oline is important.

Agree

Alright well, clearly we disagree. I believe he is not nearly as good as what he used to be before he got here as evidence of his performance in Cleveland. The sample size was large enough for me, and it disputes the whole offensive line thing. You really think the GM would let a cheap relatively young RB go for a 5th if he felt like the QB/OC was holding him back and that he would revert to being beast RB? Or maybe... just maybe he is what he is and is a below average RB at this point in time of his career and they just said wow, Jags offering a 5th for this guy? Sure! Either way, we just disagree.
After all the other things that have came out since that game......I understand why he started.

Yeldon must have been showing crappy attitude for the last several weeks.

oh well.
I have to believe that Hyde didn't see more action because they weren't confident in him knowing the whole playbook and/or they were using him to try to motivate Fournette. I think Hyde will be back next year and with a full training camp could play a bigger role especially if Fournette gets shown the door which it looks like he might.
