Full Version: Give the Saints an extra first round draft pick.

I was watching that blatant PI on Arnold, and I had a sickening feeling of deja vu from exactly one year before ...with Myles-You-Know-Who. Two bad calls, two teams denied a Super Bowl appearance. You simply can not make amends by apologizing. Their stupid call(s) changed history.  Maybe the Jags would have beaten the Eagles last year. Maybe the Saints could beat New England in this Super Bowl.

The NFL is never going to allow the game to be replayed, or simply declare the Saints the winner. That's why I suggest the Saints get an extra first round pick in the draft. Maybe pick #33.

What do you think/
No thanks, all that does is drop our 2nd round pick to a later one

I know. I'm not talking about this from a Jags' perspective--although I guess I should. I'm trying to find some way to compensate a team that was screwed out of the Super Bowl. When a player or a team screws up, the NFL hands out fines and suspensions.  But what happens when the NFL screws over a team?
The NFL doesn't give two [BLEEP] about that missed call. They'll apologize after the fact, acting like they care and admit it was a missed call, just like they do every week because there's beyond terrible calls in every single game.

Then they'll turn around and laugh as they walk away looking at all the ratings/viewers those Championship games brought and look towards the Super Bowl as they continue to count their billions.

Not if we don't watch the game.  This will be 2 years in a row now for me.

I had to log in to tell you to shut the [BLEEP] up! If the nfl did that for the saints than can you imagine all the teams sending videos of bad calls or no calls to the league headquarter expecting a draft compensation? the jags alone would get a ton of picks for the last 2 seasons and although i dont check out a lot of other games, i have seen my share of reffing issues in the ones ive watched. In the saints/rams game alone there were at least to obvious face mask penalties not called on the saints before i stopped watching.

live it alone, the games over! damn

It's the Super Bowl though man. All of us die hards could not watch it, but does that really matter when half of the country is going to watch it simply for a reason to party? Most people watching it don't really even care about the Super Bowl/NFL, they just use it as a reason to get drunk and party.
Where's our extra pick for the Myles Jack whistle?

Was gonna say the same thing.

What about the Saints blatant facemask on Goff? If that was called McVay would have a first and goal.

Not a chance.

You even stated in your post that they are not the first team to be screwed by a bad call. Back in the days before replay, bad calls happened, and you had no recourse. The league will do something to address this in the offseason, either allowing NY to buzz in when a blatant call is missed, as they do now when replay is needed, or allow coaches to challenge a no-call.

The Refs should be held accountable. The guys that blow these big calls in big games don't get the opportunity to work the big games in the future. I don't know what the refs made to officiate Sunday's game, but I guarantee it's enough that none of those guys would be happy to flush it away.

What did we get for the errant call last year?  Not a sausage. Not even a rule change.

What about the blow to the head called in the Chiefs game FROM BEHIND THE QB? That was a terrible call, too, and likely impacted the outcome as well. If you begin compensating teams for missed or bad calls, EVERYONE will begin clamoring for extra picks or whatever remedy is chosen to offset the error. It would be the equivalent of owners doing that stupid 'throw the flag' motion every receiver does when they fail to make a catch.

We picked 29 last year, we're picking 7 this year. @What more do you want?@

Roger's got our back.

Screw that.

The Saints were the recipients of an egregious call.  While unfortunate, it's in no way justification for penalizing every other team in the league that had nothing to do with the call.

It's not as if they were the only team to be the victim of a blown call.

i disagree about the refs in your post. think about it, some of the biggest fastest men on the planet running at full speed being watched by what 4, 5 men across a field 120 yard long and 53 yards wide with the players spread all over the place? they also have to watch the sides lines, the feet, the hands and so on..nope. they do a great job for what they are up against but they cant possibly watch everything. so even though i feel shafted when the jags dont get a call or a no call i cant entirely blame the officiating 100%.

in the early years when i watched football before instant reply and hd tv with 20 cameras able to get up close slow motion replay, it was better even though some stuff wasnt right like a dropped pass that wasnt called. we the viewers couldnt see it so it didnt effect our entertainment of the game. now a lot of plays are picked apart with slow motion to the point that we are looking for a blade of grass between a show and a white line. the games being analyzed so up close and with slow motion is gonna be worse to the point that every call will be reviewed, analyzed and take time to break up the flow of the game. and then the networks are goning to turn the mistakes into news pieces like the PI no call did on nfl network after the game and every 20 minutes after.
Okay. Bad idea.

I'm always late to the party. Sad

Don't beat yourself up, man. You keep posting what you feel ... Besides, you can never get to my stupid poster level, I'm the King. Rolleyes
Give them a box of tissues and a tampon and call it a day.

I'm sure that was probably out of line but it's so silly.

ish happens
its the NFL where everyone is just playing for a chance to lose to the Patriots anyway (it would seem most years)
just want to confirm that for you Kane, yes, that was out of line.
Giving the Saints and extra 1st round pick would most hut the Bucs, Panthers, and Falcons since they face them 2x in their attempt to win the NFC South Division.

Perhaps if the NFL would buy Saints fans free Crawfish and Hurricane Drinks for a day, that would solve everything. Heck, Saints fans would be rooting for bad calls in the future.
