That’s the draft that keeps Dave gainfully employed. Now we need one of those for the offensive side of the ball — all-star tackle, receiver and tight end.

But...but...Caldwell can't draft.
When you look at his entire track record... yes Dave is bad at drafting.

Yep, 2 good drafts put of 5, and 1 of the drafts I'm counting him being good at he missed on his QB in the 1st round.  Didnt count last year as it's to early

You wanna try going back and looking at Belichecks draft history?
Myles Jack wouldn't have been a 1st rounder in a re-draft either if we're being real. Plenty of better players behind him

Except BB makes up for it by being the best HC ever and pretty much always bringing the best out of his players.

Caldwell is awful. Everyone knew how good Ramsey was, same as Jack but teams were scared about the knee. He only get credit for Yannick, imo.

And that's an unreal mock. Jack was coming off of an ACL tear and admitted to a degenerative knee condition shortly before the draft. No way he was going that high. The very tail end of the first round, maybe, but not the middle of the round. Not with that knee.

Bill has always picked at the end of the rounds compared to Dave at the beginning.  Pat's have had some pretty good players over the years though that they drafted

They have some good players but they have also drafted a lot of very bad players.

He has so many dudes who are no longer a Patriot or some even in the league. Just go look at 2017 and 2016.

The point here is that GMs miss. They miss all the time. Caldwell has drafted Ramsey, Telvin, Linder, Westbrook, Jack, Yan, Robinson (drafted ARob too), Harrison, Fournette, Abry Jones and Colvin. Of course he has some misses but every GM does. Caldwell isn't the best but he's certainly not the worst or even close to it.

Everyone overlooks how bad of a GM Belicheck is because he has Tom Brady who masks the entire offense.

I mean since 2009 he probably only has like 2 truly terrible drafts and he's one of the best GMs in football at picking up undervalued assets and gaming the system. Definitely not the best drafting GM around but he's not bad, its just the Patriots have the most unique board in football so when they "miss" it tends to look a lot worse.

He does have some blind spots like he's very bad at drafting WRs and usually is good for drafting a bum DB in the 2nd or 3rd fairly commonly
GMs hit and miss. If you are going to ding him for missing some early rounds, you need to be honest and acknowledge his mid to late round successes. Don't leave out undrafted and FAs either. He has done a good job of pushing the roster up the competitive ladder. At the moment, I can't think of a GM that has been or is in a similar situation that I'd hire to replace him.
How many GMs hit more than they miss?

Thomas Dimitroff has been on a great run for the Falcons the last 6 drafts or so.

John Dorsey. He built the Chiefs team now he is building that Browns team

For the Browns, he has reinforced top tier, starter talent but he has also cut a ton of depth. They are a just a few injuries away from being, well, the Browns. A little early to say he has hit on a Browns draft. With the draft capital and cash they have/had, I might be successful though. LOL

Props to the job he did at the Chiefs though!
Mahomes was mostly Andy Reid and Brett Veach though

to be honest.  jack and ramsey were the big debate with fans on who should go rd 1.  Ngakoue is the steal imo.  Jack and Ramsey are no brainers so Caldwell didnt do anything special.  His first 2 rounds are why ppl want his head.
