Wilson just got a massive 140 million deal over 4 years. Wow. 107 of it guaranteed.... I'm not so sure Wilson is worth that contract, but he certainly just reset the QB market... I feel for any team with a rookie QB balling out right now (Cleveland, KC, etc.) I know the cap keeps moving up, but 35 million tied down to 1 player, even at QB, is just too much. It seems the winning formula is - draft a rookie QB and try to win a title with him on his rookie deal before he uses up ~19% of your entire cap. That or have the goat qb and hc and just win with no names every other year or so. Makes the Foles deal look like chump change!
Based on his accomplishments, the market, and what the Seahawks we're willing to pay, he is worth it
He has been Mr. Seahawk. He has been maybe the 2nd winningest QB since he's been in the league.
He has won as many Super Bowls as Brees and Rodgers, but has been to more. He accomplished this with a fraction of the offensive help Brees and Rodgers had.

You can add Foles to the list of QBs. Has a SB MVP too
The Seahawks won't win another Superbowl during his time there, but they'll get a lot of 8 to 10 win seasons. I wonder how many more of those before they fire coach Carroll.
Wow, what a waste of money. Wilson isn't worth 35M a year or even close to it. Seattle will not sniff another SB anytime soon.
Well, on the plus side, he'll have a pool filled with cash that he can enjoy. He'll be playing with a skeleton of an NFL roster, though. SEA better start acquiring all the day 2/3 draft picks they can, and start hitting on their picks.

Wilson had way more help than Brees or Rodgers. That Seattle defense will have multiple HOF's and some more that may have jersey's retired in Seattle when it is all said and done. Plus Lynch has an argument for jersey retirement for Seattle.

Defensive help sure, offensive help, no. He had one of the worst pass blocking lines forever
Wilson could of had 2 rings if he did throw that pick in the endzone. Should of gave it to beast mode instead of put it in his hands
We should know how hard a QB search is. We've been in one our entire existence.
When you get one like Wilson, you keep him.

It's a lot of money but I agree. Just not for that amount of money unless you're Tom Brady when you could of traded him for multiple 1sts
Hes owed $157m over the next 5 years. $65m on signing and $107 in guarantees. Highest paid player in the NFL.
Talk about gettin paidddddddd.

No player is worth that much money. It'll cripple their cap.

Wilson had more DEFENSIVE help than those guys, although the past couple of years, the Saints have had a good defense.
Offensively?
Not close.
Wilson didn't have any receivers close to say Michael Thomas or Marques Colston. Over the course of his career, Aaron Rodgers had the likes of Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Jordy Nelson. Only Doug Baldwin made the Pro bowl for Seattle with Wilson, and that was just within the last three years.
While Max Unger was good, he was never in Jahri Evans' or Carl Nicks' class.
The lack of offensive weapons and the coaching emphasis on the running game results in the stats that suggest he isn't worth it.
Wilson is considerably younger than either of those guys, has been to more Super Bowls than either of those guys. For goodness sake, he accounted for 37 of the team's 38 TDs in 2017! Who does that?!?

(that also tells you a lot about the error the Seahawks are making with their current philosophy

This is how I feel about it. Yeah RW is a baller, dude can play QB at a high level, and I get you want to make $$.. But 35 mil a year is a staggering amount(just under 1/5 of the cap). Yeah, you get paid, but chances are you have handicapped your team hard. The Seahawks either nail drafts, or get stuck with aging players and low budget FA's. Yikes, hard to see them doing a lot of winning over the next 4-5 years. We'll see!

I'm just curious. How do you of?

Based upon the talking heads at NFL Network, they'll have the money to sign DE Frank Clark and LB Bobby Wagner based upon the way the contract is structured.
We shall see.
However, given how important he is to the Seahawks in terms of historical team accomplishments, his singular importance to the offense, age and his overall good image, I don't see how the Hawks could afford to let him walk.
Before this deal, guys with a fraction of his accomplishments (Garoppolo, Stafford, Cousins, Carr, and Alex Smith) were all getting paid more than him.
https://overthecap.com/position/quarterback/
Just the nature of the market and how salary caps in general are changing across all sports. What was that massive MLB contract that just got signed? It was close to $300M was it not? A lot of these guys may or may not actually see all that money too. A lot of that is just about making it look good on paper and the title with it.
As Bullseye pointed out. There's plenty of other QB's in the NFL with far, far less accomplishments on their resume's and they've made far, far more money than Wilson has. Wilson has pretty much been the entire offense for the Seahawks now over the last two years. That defense fell apart due to age, injuries and departures but Wilson held up his end of the bargain IMHO.
I think he'll continue to carry that team to the best of his abilities. But it's up to Seattle's GM and coaching staff to rebuild around him now while he's still in his prime. 30 years old is young for a QB in today's age. They could potentially win another title with him over the next four years if they get it done in the draft.
