Jags DE Josh Allen (knee) likely to miss minicamp

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001...s-minicamp

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone told reporters that rookie pass rusher Josh Allen isn't likely to participate in minicamp next week. Allen suffered a knee bruise during OTAs.
Nobody misses this much time in football due to a “bruise”. Just sounds weird at this point, not at a panic level yet but there is some concern. Hopefully everything is ok come training camp.

I posted this in another thread, but it applies here too. Several rookies have missed time with minor injuries.

First round picks in bold...
  • Bills DT Ed Oliver - wearing non-contact jersey due to shoulder soreness
  • Colts C Javon Patterson - on IR with an ACL
  • Chargers S Nasir Adderly - DNP due to an undisclosed injury
  • Jaguars DE Josh Allen - out with an ankle injury
  • Jaguars RB Ryquel Armstead - out with a hamstring
  • Jets DT Quennin Williams - limited with a calf injury
  • Eagles RB Miles Sanders - out with a hamstring
  • 49ers DE Nick Bosa - out with a "minor hamstring"
  • 49ers WR Shawn Poindexter - sat out with a "minor injury"
  • 49ers WR Deebo Samuel - DNP due to a "suspected minor injury"
  • Ravens WR Marquise Brown - out with a Lis Franc injury
  • Titans WR AJ Brown - left practice with an undisclosed injury
Good, let him work his mind and rest his body. These rookies have been grinding constantly since Spring of last year. Spring ball, then the college season, then straight into getting ready for the combine and draft process. Then straight into NFL rookie camps etc. etc.

If he's still not practicing come August, when it starts to matter, then I'll start worrying. Until then, get in all the mental work you can young man.

Yeah, they can.  A bone bruise can be as painful, and linger just as long as a broken bone.  When that bone bruise is on the knee of your top draft pick, and you're a team that has seen a player of similar pedigree go on the IR before he played a single snap in the past, you're going to bubble wrap the guy and let him completely heal. Don't try to read more into this than is actually real.

Considering these top draft picks have been going since spring camp with their schools last year, giving the guy a break to rest up and heal up is a good thing.

I completely agree with that, especially with the depth we already have on our defensive line.  I see no need to rush him into things.  It's going to be a long season.
