Lee Iacocca, 'father' of Ford Mustang who helped save Chrysler from bankruptcy, dead at 94: reports

Father of the Ford Mustang and former chairman of Chrysler Lee Iacocca has died of natural causes at his home in Bel Air, Calif., his family said Tuesday. He was 94.

I honestly thought he was dead already. I’m not sure if saving Chrysler was a good or bad thing.

There wouldn't be the Viper or the awesome Mopar cars we have today

That’s what tempers my opinion. Someone at my work drives a Hellcat and, Lordy, does that thing sound beastly rolling in. It’s definitely just a straight line car, but the thrill launches would be awesome.
Iacocca pioneered the minivan and led the American manufacturers away from huge, inefficient v8 sedans to midsize front wheel drive cars. Led Chrysler out of bankruptcy and paid back a government loan ahead of schedule.

Pretty impressive stuff for any executive, much less a "car guy", which he certainly was. RIP, Lee.
He saved Jeep, also. When they acquired AMC in 1987, they did so to grab the Jeep brand, and that proved to be a wise decision. He was a visionary. It was a shame to hear that he had passed, but he definitely left his mark on the auto industry with some iconic designs that changed it forever.
