I think we've seen the last of Gratz. Him being inactive this last game says a lot. This next game week I think we see Colvin replacing House and House bumped down to #4 CB. Hope he likes special teams!!

Quote:What has happened. The guy gets burned, penalizes and looks lost out there.
The thing with House is, he's always had these issues. He'll stick to his guy for the most part but its the one lapse where the WR gets him to bite that he really pays for it. He played well against Hopkins last year... until Hopkins worked him on one play and it got in his head. Same with Brandon Marshall, he was stifling him but then some things started to break away from his favor and Marshall beat him for the game winning score.

I believe that House is an ok CB, he shined last year because in Nickel Sets we had Nick Marshall and Dwayne Gratz on the field who were routinely picked on. Colvin played well, but we also had Cyprien playing a deep half instead of a true box SS, and no FS to speak of... in essence, he was hidden because he played solidly enough for opposing QB's to pick on someone else.

Now with Ramsey, Gipson, and Cyp in a role better suited to his talents, House (especially with Cyp picking up his play) is the one that teams will challenge. I liked him last year but think he's probably better off in the Third Corner role (not neccessarily covering the slot though) since Ramsey and Colvin can blitz, and have quickness to man the nickel and be a threat from that spot, House lacks that and seeing how he's an outside guy only he may fall by the wayside if his play doesnt pick up. Unfortunately, We have Ramsey (#1 CB and will be for the forseeable future) Amukamara at #2 (who's looked SOLID thus far, just can't stay healthy) and Colvin who shines in the slot/nickel. House being an outside Corner only may be the #4 and only on the field for breathers or in case of injury (which will happen given Colvin and Prince's history)

House is at worst valuable depth, but even last year if you thought he'd be a #1 CB, you were rather optimistic. While we're on the topic, I think we should move Gratz to FS since he can tackle but i think he lacks the pure speed/athleticism to stick with a teams top weapons. Peyton Thompson has played well at backup FS (especially when Gipson sprained his knee last game and he played key minutes in the 4th quarter) for Gratz to stick around, he'll need to be a "jackknife" of sorts and be able to play multiple positions as well as Special Teams.

Nice post, your analysis of House's performance last year is dead on.

I hope so. Got tired of Gratz falling all over the place last season.

Gratz to FS?  No thanks.  You need Speed and Athleticism to play FS and be Center Field.  That's not Gratz.  We have Gipson there.  Gratz can move to Free Agent.

House has definitely struggled.  Last year he played pretty well for us.  Few lapses here and there, but overall was easily out best CB.  This year, not so much.  Ramsey and Prince are undeniably better.  Colvin coming back likely pushes House to CB4 on the bench, which, is actually great.  I mean... he's struggled, but he's not exactly a scrub.. and as far as depth CBs go... you could do a LOT worse than House.
I remember one of the games last season, one of the teams we were playing talked to the refs to watch out for Davon's "grabbiness" before the game. I think teams are paying attention and he is starting to (or already has) a reputation.

He's been a good player for a few seasons and it's not like he's an old player so I don't see any reason for the drop-off. Injured maybe? It could just be a rough few games. It happens from time to time.
