+1
The Jaguars are now a team of 52 men ......not 51 and JR

I don't think any of us has a clue how good or bad or how much growth he's really shown or anything with the lack of real tests he's been given so far.
I watched Herndon live for all his time at Vanderbilt. He's always had promise, but was never able to put it all together and teams always picked on him when they needed to pass. That hasn't changed. I've seen him flash, but then falter hard. So I don't know where he is two years into his NFL career. I'm skeptical but I'll root for him.

Great point snow wolf. Herndon is indeed a team player. He seems like a solid cb2 to me and is a young player who is learning and developing at his craft.
He's played about as well as you can reasonably ask a UDFA corner making his first few starts on the outside. Has lots of high quality reps so far
Since Week 7, Tre Herndon has allowed the NFL’s lowest passer rating (40.4) when targeted (min. 20 targets).
The Vanderbilt product returns to the Nashville to face the Titans.
Please stop looking at PFF Stats, Tre Herndon is a decent backup. Please stop acting like we lucked up and got a starter at CB. We may draft or trade for one
I think Herndon can settle in as a starter for the Jags long term.

I didnt look at pff stats, thats passer rating aloud. I think he is more than capable of being a number 2 corner

I completely agree. He’s already better than any rookie that your gonna throw out there. He’s taking quality snaps, and has already made some big time plays.

He's played like an above average corner this year. Look at any metric or stat you want.
Or, even if you just watch the games, you'll see he's only really struggled a couple of times, one Vs Manny Sanders for instance

He also made a diving interception, while twisting into a full back peddle. That was a big boy play.
He’s fully capable of being our CB2, with Bouye being our CB1. Like I said, he’s already better than any Rook your gonna toss to the wolves.
I mean its his 2nd year and hasnt even played a full season. Gonna see how he finishes the season
While Herndon is getting better, I think it would be a huge mistake to not at least add some competition for the spot and see who wins it. Certainly a huge mistake IMO to just go into next year and hand Herndon the starting role without some good competition.

Exactly.
Personally, I'd not let the third round come and go without having selected a corner in that round or prior.
If you can promise me he will face the Bengals, Jets, Flacco, Mariota, Teddy, Kyle Allen, Texans w/o Fuller, and Colts without Hilton then I believe he can be a solid CB2 on a team that is still losing despite that embarrassingly easy schedule.
Can he be a CB2 on a respectable team that faces a non joke schedule? Well, we'll see soon enough when he faces one of Evans/Godwin, Allen/Williams, or Julio/Ridley in the next month.
Pretty deep CB class. Diggs from Bama and Johnson from Utah could be there on day two potentially.

Oh we definitely need to draft a corner because if one of Bouye, Hayden, or Herndon go down we are pretty much screwed. I wouldnt take one in the first or 2nd unless the corner was BPA. Much more pressing needs imo
If our run defense wasnt horrific and if our offense was playing more consistently, we wouldn't even know Ramsey is off the team. Herndon has played like a solid starter. But like all solid starters he could be replaced by a great player if we find one

He's performed very well vs the likes of Kenny Stills, Will Fuller, Robbie Anderson etc etc. You can analyze those reps independent of QB play.
Not saying we have our CB2 spot locked down for the next 5 years. Just that he's played as well as he could reasonably be expected to in his first starts in the NFL. Even if he plays badly vs a Godwin or Evans it won't make his year bad
