Here's the bottom line. Seriously.
Gus Bradley's scheme does not fit with our players.
We are a 3-4 team.

I get that part. But Myles Jack being a top 5 prospect coming out of college doesn't need to ride pine for 3 games.

We're not a 3-4 team. The 4-3 scheme Carolina runs would fit our personnel perfectly.

I think defensively the coaches' have earned the benefit of the doubt. They said they needed certain types of players. They've gotten those players and they're 8th. They should only continue to gel, but after the bye we get Colvin back more secondary flexibility. If I'm not mistaken, i thought we were prepared to take him at 5 if Ramsey had already been drafted. If so, no way Caldwell takes a guy on the coach's side of the ball with no respect to what the coach wants. I originally hoped he would play Otto, but I do get he his Poz's successor.

You can't use that as an excuse. A good coach knows how to get the best out of his players not trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Gus is a bad coach, period. I really don't see how hard this is to understand.

Forget ranking cause we are a team and that is the rank that matters. If one sucks then we all suck. We need to play unstoppable because the guys we have are unstoppable.

Remember we signed a couple Seattle cast offs. We were consistently giving up the deep ball because we had suspect FS play. We were waiting on cyp to turn the corner, they said competent FS play would improve his play. Boundary corner was a hole. I'm sure you remember this.

Glad to see it go when the head coach goes.

Well, toilet paper is a very useful thing. Are you saying PFF is an accurate way to rank players?

It's early I know, but seriously 8th is trash? If they fire him.. ok. I'm pointing out they previously identified the problems with the scheme and it looks as if they told the truth. He could still be fired and this would still be true.

Quote:But the genies on this board said Telvin and Poz should be benched and cut
I always said Jack should be on the field but with those 2 guys, not replacing them until we move on from Poz in later years
Also the SD game kinda screw up some of the rankings but to have guys that high even with that bad game is telling, the defense will be very good
Everyone who favored benching Telvin must have been watching the wrong linebacker. You can't watch #50 and deny he is a beast.
I don't get the "cut Poz" crap either. Poz has also been pretty good this season. In case people forgot, he is #51.
The SD game was bad all over. Just one of those can't-do-anything-right games for us, which every team has occasionally. Not saying it should be discounted, but the defense can and does play much better.

Most people seem to forget even if Gus Bradley is fired, we can hire another bad coach who installs the wrong scheme. It is stupid to assume any winning coach will automatically make us better knowing not all of them use the right scheme. We know this because players often suck on one team and succeed in another with a totally different scheme.

I bet if you saw any other team ranked 8th you would say they have a very good defense that has a perfect player/scheme fit. Some people just want to loo/k for reasons to hate our coaches.

Looking through this again, I wonder if Dave Caldwell is seriously kicking himself for waiving Tyrone Holmes. Still don't understand keeping Chris Smith or Dan Skuta or signing Arthur Brown instead of just keeping Tyrone Holmes. I have a feeling he is going to be a real good player.

A very dubious grading system for many positions at PFF.
Often misleading.
The time when they did the blurb on McCray though- he was playing pretty darn good.
IIRC it was over a 4 or 5 game stretch that they analyzed.
Their grades are especially questionable at LB, and the OL, and to a lesser extent safety, because they have to guess the assignments. Their grades at QB, RB, WR, DL, and CB are a lot closer to reality.
