Jaguars expected to decline DT Marcell Dareus' option

The Jacksonville Jaguars have decided to decline defensive tackle Marcell Dareus' $19.5 million option, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday.
Not a surprise. You can't pay him $20 million a year. I hope to see a resign at a reduced rate.

Neither moves are surprising. Would like to see them target that LB out of Chicago though. Think he could be a good fit here. Solid rotational player at least.
This falls under, "To the surprise of absolutely no one."

I hope to see Dareus back, but I think we'd be better off drafting Brown (a man can hope) or Kinlaw (a man can hope he's there at 20), maybe even targeting a guy like Blacklock or Gallimore later on. That's all subject to change based upon what Dareus is looking for, but we'll see.
I'd like to keep both at an reduced rate of pay but I don't think that it'll happen. Dareus was an vital part of our defensive run game for awhile. I feel that he tapered off as of last year and we Never got to see what Ryan had to offer. Time to move on.

Time Will Tell.

NH3...
Gotta get under the cap.

Which some, for whatever reason, don't believe is still a thing.
Dareus won't come back if they decline it. He complete thinks he is worth that much.

You're thinking of Campbell.

If he does, he's in for a surprise. The question isn't whether he's worth $20M to the Jaguars--he's not. No space-eating NT is. The question is whether or not he's worth enough to Jacksonville to keep him from going anywhere else, and while I wouldn't complain if he is, I think the general perception of space-eating NTs being easy to find will hurt him.
I'd put it about 50/50 he comes back. I doubt that there's any bad blood, I'm sure both sides knew that the next year of the contract was extremely unlikely. He'll probably test the market, but the supply of good NTs is big this year, he might not get what he wants and then could come back to the jags best offer.

No I'm talking about Dareus. He came to one of Jaguars game watch parties in Manhattan last year after his injury.

He didn't get into details but basically said the Jaguars better pay him because look at how bad the run defense got after he went out. That was like October, so things may have changed. I doubt it though.

The media speculation is that Dareus really likes it here, and that he'd be open to staying here at a reduced price.  I guess we'll see.

Neither of these moves is a real shock.  They're working hard to get under the cap, so they won't be the last decisions this front office has to make.  Bouyee is probably on the block as well.  Lee is most likely done here too.

I'm just glad we don't have any concerns on the offensive line. Dave Caldwell has my complete confidence in that statement.

Agreed.  I don't see this as anything other than a business decision straight up.  Dareus isn't going to pull down even half of what he was going to make here, and I do think he reall likes playing for Marrone, and being in Jacksonville.
