He's taken in the top 9 in 6 out of the 19 mocks there.
Like I say, good player who may well be in play for us at 9, but far from a guarantee that they would pull the trigger.
We'll see. It's a crap shoot. Early projections say it's a possibility. This is coming from your biggest mock sources. That's all I am saying.
It's also February. A lot is going to change up to the draft.

Mekhi has his own gravitational pull.
#4 is depressed because he can't escape.

I'm being annoyingly pedantic here, but you said "
If Andrew Thomas fell to them at 9 they would be all over it" which is different from "it's a possibility".
Anyhow, we both agree he could be a good pick at 9.
Is the QB position really an open battle?
It feels like the coaches havent really bought into Minshew. He got thrown in, won us games, got dumped the second Foles was back and when he stank it up, Minshew thrown back in to save those coaches jobs. Most of the time they ran it 2 downs and asked Minshew to make the 3rd and long over and over again.
I do like Foles but Minshew is our best bet of a QB to build around.
Why do i fear were going to start Foles, he gets injured and we just repeat last seasons cycle again.
Marrone is damn lucky there's no HC depth chart.

I think announcing your 50 million dollar (guaranteed money) QB will be competing for the job with a guy named Dobbs does that quite well already.

I think Becton is the most underrated prospect of the draft. He should be a guaranteed top5 pick! If the 'Giants further' pass him up, we'd be lucky to have him at 9. Maybe there is the smokescreen...

More on the O-line.
It's either an elaborate smokescreen or they really are happy to roll out the same line next year.
OR just GMs and coach's talking up everyone on their roster.
Everything doesn't have to be some grand strategic move

Everything you hear out of
every GM in the league this time of year is a smokescreen. The draft is a big poker game and you never show your cards to anyone.
I want to say that it means nothing, but one of Dave's biggest faults has been his refusal to move on from (much less give big 2nd contracts to...) his draftees that have shown little to no growth.

Dave hasn't really had a chance at his draft pick's 2nd contracts...
Old [BLEEP], Senile, Dumb [BLEEP], Tom Coughlin's stupid [BLEEP] was brought into the mix when it was at that time. Coughlin ran everybody off, because he's a stupid idiot [BLEEP].
Dave will seal his fate with this Ngakoue deal and we'll see what happens with it.

It matters that the guy who signed Foles (and possibly influenced his premature return to the lineup) and the coach who designed/called those plays are gone. The new guys hopefully see the situation here with more clarity.

100%. Even when it's clear a player isn't capable of helping this team, Dave seems to double down instead of move on. Lee, Bortles, Cann.....

I think this and everything they are saying is just talk. They don't want to give any info on where they may go in the Draft and also don't want to box themselves in with anything. If Minshew is the QB we think he is and can be, he should win the competition. Hopefully....

Thats fair. I do feel Marrone has happily let all the QB stuff be put on Coughlin but i worry about a HC doing things he disagrees with.
I dare say the stance of 'open competition' like you say is just the off season position and they have more of an idea but they've had all 3 QB's on the roster a year, id like to think they know what they have.

Agreed, i hope!!
I get it if its just the off season position and not boxing themselves in.
I cant help but think this is why we only ever have 1 good QB. We dont know what to do with 2!!

Imagine adding Isaiah Simmons to that mix.
This has always been the thing about Simmons though.
Helluva player. More of a WILL (which means leaving Jack at MIKE which most people don't want to do)
But moving all these guys around into certain packages would be ideal, however we as fans don't think Wash is creative enough, or able to, create these packages and mismatches.
Getting Jack, Simmons, and Williams all on the field certainly has some 'potential' in coverage packages.
Guess we'll see.....

Definitely could also be the case too. But Caldwell usually seems more transparent than most.
Here's O-Zone weighing in on the matter:
Did Jaguars General Manager David Caldwell just say that our offensive line was one of our stronger points?
Caldwell and Head Coach Doug Marrone both spoke highly of the Jaguars' offensive line during their media availabilities at the NFL Scouting Combine Tuesday. I'll get deeper into this on jaguars.com later this week, but it does sound as if the team likes the line more than many fans and observers. It reminds me a bit of when Caldwell spoke highly of the Jaguars' wide receivers last offseason. That group for the most part last season outplayed the preseason expectations of many observers. Perhaps the same will be true of the offensive line next season. Stay tuned.
And from the next question:
"From listening to Marrone and Caldwell speak Tuesday, I would be a little surprised if the Jaguars go offensive line with one of those two first-round selections."

And the worst one might have been pretty much no competition added handing Joeckel the LG spot in year 4.
I'm holding out hope that one of two things are at play here:
- Cam Robinson was seriously hampered by the knee recovery, they legit see signs he'll improve, and they will add a guard at the very least - or -
- Caldwell is straight up blowing smoke and tackle is in play in the first round
Is this OT class better than some? I dont see how Cam would have started all year with a bad knee. I still say oline should be a high priority.
