Quote:Cann is not good enough. Nobody who played in the interior this past Sunday should be kept around. Can be easily upgraded. We need to sign veterans AND supplement with draft picks. Not just one or the other.
Keep Linder, Beachum and Parnell. Upgraade the other two spots with GOOD players. not MAYBE players.
You contradicted yourself. Linder is an interior lineman.
He said this Sunday, Linder didn't play.

Linder didn't play Sunday.
Shatley played his spot.
The interior of our o-line has been suspect for years. I don't mind Linder at center at all, I think he'll end up being a good player there, but the guards need to be upgraded majorly. I thought Cann was going to be good?

Shatley played his spot.
I just remembered that.

edit: nvm
Are we all overreacting because the OL was bad yesterday? It was Shatley's first game at center. Our LG was someone we signed a few months ago. Until now, most posters liked Cann and Parnell. I think part of it was the Ravens.
I believe Linder is good at C and Beachum at LT. Those should be the only two "locked" starters right now though.

He was going to be good - at pass blocking.
Isn't is essentially the same Oline as last year?
The issue not incredibly more resources. It's a matter of scheme and fitting that scheme to the OL that you have. I think over the past 2 years, we have proved that our OL just cannot get up to the second level or catch the run blitzers on a stretch play, so stop running it.
Good running teams do not always have to invest insane resources (big money FA or high draft picks) on the OL. It's just not financially feasible given how much money you have to pay to other star positions. Success is based on scheme, film study, and focus.
Plus this is the NFL. Players get hurt. Even if you pay money to get 7 studs to rotate through your OL, you are still probably going to have a few other players rotate through the line due to injury. Playing to their strengths and calling running plays to do that is the way to make it work. If that requires creating new plays then so be it. If that requires Blake more under center, then honestly that probably is a good thing.

Not at all. Last year we did not have Beachum and our center was a guy we don't have anymore. Shatley replaced Cann, who subbed for Linder, at RG.
I spent 2 hours this morning pulling stats like a crazy conspirancy nut. The improvements are marginal from year to year. They really neglected the Offensive lines for the entire Caldwell tenure. DC has executed his plan and it is a back and forth affair that ignores parts of the team some years and over focuses other years. The strict money management and "hoping" for development has backfired.
We can hope it is just coaching but the stats say it is a bigger problem.
Rushing Averages per year
2013 - 74.4 for us 105 for them
2014 - 82.7 for us 107.7 for them
2015 - 81.7 for us 95.4 for them
This team doesn't run block well. 2013 was the line built by Gene Smith.

Could you maybe spend some time looking at pro football sites or something. This isn't a race to post counts. Please get some information to backup what you post.

the problem is we should have known that to be the case after last season. instead it's basically the same group plus Beachum.
anybody with a brain should have known Joeckel, a weak left tackle, would not push the pile at guard against much bigger men. common sense.

That stats show it as well. Our eyes aren't playing tricks on us. They neglected the line this year. We were hoping for some "development" and improvements because of more time in a "system".

Nerd numbers show this as well. Not much growth in the team. The QB and WR's had a good year in 2014 despite poor offensive line play.
Quote:we should have upgraded our interior. Moving Linder to center was not an upgrade.
This is why we can't run block... Linder was a really good RG... He opened monster holes last year and was a proven downfield blocker.. at center he's just ordinary.

GMs tend to hang on to players they draft until the bitter end. Joeckel and Cann are good examples.

If you watched the Jaguars last year, you know all of the necessary information that proves we have a very different lineup now on the offensive line.
