Let’s throw it all the way back to 1996 when the Jags went up to Foxboro and almost stole one.

It was a tie game 25-25 in the 4th quarter. Jimmy Smith caught a Hail Mary before halftime.

Believe it or not, Dave Thomas intercepted a Bledsoe pass and ran it back for a game winning TD, but....it was called back because Hudson was called for a chop block on the return.

Then Brunell threw another Hail Mary to Willie Jackson...and he looked to be in, but he was short by 1 human hair.

Anyway, on that day we almost had three 100 yard receivers:

Rison - 115 yards 2 TD
Jackson - 101 yards 
Smith - 95 yards 1 TD
Mitchell - 53 yards

In that same game, our RB Stewart had an all time low in Jags rushing yards history, with 5 yards on 9 attempts. His longest run was 5 yards, which means he gained 0 yards on the other 8 attempts.

Anyway, 8 finished with 432 and 3. And another game the Patriots was let off the hook.

A crazy game for a rookie. Could of been one of the all time greats

It sucks we lost that game and Andre Johnson had a huge game but was one of the best rookie performances of all time nonetheless

I remember this game. Henne was just letting it fly all over the field and Blackmon was going up and getting it. He was unstoppable when he tried. Sigh

He definitely could have been an all time great. He was unstoppable that day. I think he dropped a pass in the endzone that day. 

He would still be playing today, and probably making all pro every year and averaging 1400 and 8 per season.

I have never wondered this.

Watching Blackmon highlights always stings. Wonder where he would’ve ranked all time with the Jags if we kept his head on straight.

I think he ceiling would’ve been higher than everyone except Jimmy.

He was a stud with a crappy quarterback(s). Imagine how good he could have been with a good QB.

Jimmy Smith is still our best Wide Receiver ever and it's not close. He was better by himself than the sum of our entire receiving corps some years.

As for his many great games, the 2000 loss to the ravens is his best ever.

"Smith caught 15 passes for a franchise-record 291 yards and three touchdowns in a 39-36 loss to Baltimore on Sept. 10, 2000. Smith’s 15 catches were one shy of Keenan McCardell’s 16, which he set against St. Louis in 1996. All three of Smith’s TD catches were from 40 or more yards: 40, 43 and 45. The last TD catch, a 40-yarder, put the Jaguars ahead 36-32 with 1:45 remaining."
