He handed the ball off on 1st and 2nd down because the coaching staff doesn't trust him. Which they shouldn't. He threw a pick on that drive. Blake is looking TERRIBLE this year. Stupid decisions, way too many turnovers, taking sacks instead of throwing it away. This does not include the atrocious inaccuracy this guy has. It's time to place much of the blame on this guy and stop making excuses for him. Newsflash, we couldn't rush the ball last year either! Blake is an entirely different player this year than last which is not a good sign. I'm beginning to believe that he was just as terrible last year too but his receivers (namely Robinson) bailed him out. We "think" Blake was playing smart by throwing hail marys to Robinson and allowing him to make a play. It could of simply been inaccurate passes that a great playmaker turned into something positive. Either way, we have got to get someone that can throw with more accuracy because Blake doesn't have it.

Nope. I'm not willing to go that far. As others have pointed out, Blake has shown us enough good things to believe that he can be a very good QB. His TD pass against Green Bay was as pretty as you'll ever see. And his second TD pass to A-Rob was a fade, something his critics claimed he couldn't throw.
I think when you're constantly asked to carry the team, it has to wear on you. Look at the great QBs in this league, and you'll find that the vast majority of them have support with a running game.
Can't get everyone the ball. That's just what you guys will have to get use to. This coaching staff calls terrible plays, and they usually can never extend long drives consistently. If we score, it's from explosive plays and never a strategic advance down the field.
All QBs "stare down" receivers from time to time. It happens.
No QBs do it all the time, including Bortles.
Part of Brunell's issue later in his career is that he'd pat the ball.
I've noticed more of that from Blake, too, lately.
Add the baseball pitch/recoil pause to the mix and it makes his throw easier to break on. *sometimes* (not all the time)

First play of the game. Bortles stares down ARob, Hurns is wide open for an easy completion.
God that is irritating to see. Dude could've took it to the house from there. Arob was double covered. Why not just look him off and go to Hurns.

That sure sounds a whole lot more like crappy execution than it does play calling.
Good offenses will beat you with the same 4 or 5 simple plays over and over again in the same drive.
Now that said - Of course the coaching gets plenty of blame (in my book anyway) for not preparing them to execute more consistently. There's no good reason why it's so hard for Blake to make the easy throws like quick slants and swing passes. He makes it look so hard when others make it look so easy. Have you ever seen him hit a RB in perfect stride on a swing pass where the back didn't have to adjust for the ball and alter his route? I can literally think of ONE time he nailed that pass. Once.
He's been a pro long enough to get coached up on that.
The run blocking is the other culprit of crappy execution, and I don't even know where to start pointing fingers on that one, but the coaches are definitely in the area.

It's crappy execution, but also running the ball up the middle non stop and then making it obvious that you're passing on 3rd sets you up for failure. There's just s lack of creativity with the plays. We never nickel and dime our way down the field, it's just either or. Huge plays for a TD or 3 and out.
Other offenses can do it all the time, it's infuriating. I think it falls on the coaches, the offense isn't being setup for success.

I see the limited play calling, and I get it, but I still think it's more execution than the plays themselves even if they are predictable.
Good teams do it regularly. (call predictable run-plays successfully)
Here's something else to consider:
Green Bay, SD, and Baltimore all rank in the top ten in run defense. Our opponents after the bye week largely fall in the bottom quarter of the rankings.
The run game will get a little bit easier and hopefully the line will get healthier.
