When I look at all of this mock draft/team needs talk from all of the "experts" at ESPN and others. A lot of them say one of biggest needs for the Jaguars is at the LB position.

So my question is how do you feel about our current starters at LB.

Myles Jack
Joe Schobert
Quincy Williams

There is simply no way that Jack and Schobert are not starting. Both should have pretty good season. If there is question mark it is Williams and I personally feel he is starting material.

I wouldn't look at LB until round 4 at best.

Interested in others thoughts on our current LB core.
With our new set up Williams is likely a back up WLB at this point. Scho mans the middle and Jack is the Will. I think our SAM is Leon Jacobs who has actually played well from that spot, when healthy, since being drafted in the 7th round.

I suppose it is possible that Jack could play SAM (where he excelled as a rookie) in base 43 looks with Williams at the WILL spot and then move over in nickel packages.

To answer you question I feel OK about our LB group for now. We could be in for a major revamping in 2021 though if Jack continues to struggle and Scho doesn't seem to pan out.
Off ball linebackers need to be extremely special to give big second contracts to. We now have two big second contract off ball linebackers who are not extremely special. And in Jack's case might be simply extremely not good. Not a fan, but we're stuck with it. Unless it's a day 3 LB that is a 2 down thumper like Bachie or a swiss army knife like Simmons I don't think we should be drafting a LB.
I"m ok with the first 4 guys, but they aren't durable and there's nothing behind them as last year showed.
Jordyn Brooks or Shaq Quarterman will be drafted.
I'm fine with the group as it stands, but I'd add another linebacker in the 6th or 7th round for added depth.

While I don't know every LB core in the NFL, I'd have to say ours is close to the worst in the league.

Why? Schobert is highly regarded played pretty well on a better than bad Browns D.
Jack played well as a rookie and has struggled since manning the MIKE but will be moved back to the outside this season.
Williams isn't part of the core, imo. Leon Jacobs is actually a very good SAM backer.

I mean, I can't name a bunch of teams entire LB groups either, just wondering why you think ours is one of the worst in the league (aside from typical Jag ninny fan pessimism)

Completely agree.
I am hoping we draft Quarterman. I think he will be a solid back up MLB.
At this point of the game, if we draft an linebacker within the first three rounds, he'll be an pass rushing specialist.

NH3...
Leon Jacobs has been average; I still remember his rookie year and just failing miserably at tackling Henry on that 99 yard run... I don't think we need to address SLB as an immediate need, but if we can get an upgrade in the middle rounds i'm very much in favor of it as we have essentially no depth besides Quincy Williams at WLB. If Isaiah Simmons falls to us at 9, i'd like to see him at SLB in base sets, and in nickel moving to SS etc. as a chess piece
Calitro is a decent backup SLB.
Good teams spend $$$ on the QB, LT, DE, CB. Jags waste money on average LBers. We're setup for failure before the season even starts.
