I think Reed will be the steal of our draft, i would of been OK with him in the 4th honestly. When I didn't have Winfield or Delpit mocked to us I usually had Reed as a later round pick. He was the leader of the Georgia D and one of 3 first team All American safties along with Delpit and Winfield. The only reason he wasn't drafted is because of a ACL tear back in High school that hasn't been an issue since and teams medically flagged him. I think he's gonna be a great player and will end up being our future a FS
I’m by no means a football expert and base a lot of my evaluations on “eye test”. Instinct you could call it, I guess. This guy passes the eye test with me. He’s active on both sides of the line of scrimmage and reads plays well. He’s watching the QB’s eyes while also having a sense of whole field play. He’ll be a keeper.
Not gonna lie, I'm more excited about Reed than any UDFA we have ever picked up and like him better than a number of our draft picks, big fan. I hope I'm right on him and he can stay healthy

I like Reed too! Top5 undrafted IMO. Problem is, that Thomas guy looks more like a SS that might be able to slide into a backup FS role. However, Reed to me is an exclusive SS. I don't like the idea of Harrison at FS. Feels like we are still missing a FS unless they think one of the nickel backs can fill that role.
He's already 25 unfortunately. There isn't going to be as much development with him since he's already physically mature. I'd keep expectations in check.

That's a good thing, he has the experience and can step in right away.

What makes you feel Reed is only a SS?
wouldn't be surprised if he beat out wilson, but wilson has the advantage of being trusted already with a long time in the scheme.
think Reed, Barcoo and Robinson all make the roster
I've remained quiet on this pickup because of my obvious bias (see my screen name).
But J.R. Reed is a straight baller. He never takes plays off, he gives "110%" every play. He's smart, has elite instincts and a nose for the play. He's rarely caught out of position and plays the angles well enough to recover.
My bias had him being picked in the 3rd or 4th round. Never did I think he would go undrafted. He has shown top play against top offenses.
I think he will be a long term piece to our defense.

I am very excited about this addition. Reed has good size and speed with great instincts. I see him as the backup FS this year
Good player. We need a guy in the secondary that makes plays. Hope he can be good enough for the field at times sooner than later.
I love this pickup he’s a free safety all the way. I’d like to see him add a little bulk though a bit slender for even a free safety add 5-10 pounds and I could see him taking wilsons job in a year. How did he go undrafted age + injuries + weight? Even still roll the dice with a 7 for someone like that. Gotta even think why Caldwell took a kick returner over him?

My centiments as well. Yes, he plays the part but he's too light weight to be an NFL starting safety in my opinion.
Time Will Tell.
NH3...

I wondered that, too...you see it every year. The draft ends with some insignificant player (nothing against Claybrooks) and then we all gush over our good fortune in landing a UDFA or two. Why didn't we just tab him in the 7th?
On the surface, Reed's skill set seems to upstage Claybrooks- potential starting FS vs a KR- but maybe the team's brain trust just wanted to lock in the electric KR. Or knew they had the inside trck with Reed (or a signed committment tsk tsk).
Anytime you can get an SEC starter as a UDFA you have a player with NFL potential.
He's a lock for a backup spot, at minimum.
I think he is better than Andrew Wingart. I think he is the backup FS and Daniel Thomas is the backup SS.
You guys got me pumped about him. Seems like one of those guys people were talking about falling due to the depth of this draft class.
