The NFL Schedule is set to be released this week. Predict the following AS IT DIRECTLY RELATES TO THE GAMES THAT WILL BE ON THIS INITIAL SCHEDULE RELEASE. Personally, I think the NFL may frontload the AFC/NFC matchups (this year AFC South vs NFC North) so if they need to postpone a month, the 4 games that will be lost will be the AFC/NFC matchups.
Jags Opening Game Opponent (and identify home of away) ---
Bears @ Jags
Jags # of Prime Time Games -
1 vs Titans on Thursday Night (as always) -- in Jacksonville this year.
NFL Opening Game - Thursday (
Falcons @ KC -- using my afc/nfc rationale above, this was the falcons or panthers)
NFL Opening MNF Doubleheader -
(game 1 Bucs @ Giants) // (game 2 Steelers @ Cowboys )
Thanksgiving Tripleheader -
(game 1 Bears @ Lions) // game 2 49ers @ Cowboys // game 3 Chiefs @ Bucs)
If you google the team schedule 2020 you can see each teams' home and away games. Example: https://fbschedules.com/tampa-bay-buccaneers-schedule/
As noted above, my Month 1 strategy was based on all AFC/NFC matchups --- i could be totally wrong on this and not even certain the NFL did the logistics drill to figure out the schedule like this accordingly. The NFL annually tends to use a similar scheduling pattern (e.g. Jags vs Titans in week 3 and Jags vs Indy in Week 17 so the typical scheduling drill is not really that difficult in a normal year). This also altered the Thanksgiving Day games since some of those were usually AFC/NFC matchups which will be gone in my scenario.
1. Jags at Vikings
2. 1 as you said
3. Falcons @ KC
4. Cowboys @ Ravens, Pats @ Seattle
5. Your picks are about right, but I see Pack/Lions being a better match up. Game 3 could be Chiefs @ Saints, that would be a great night cap.

bit of a surprise, I figured they would back-load the schedule with conference games just in case there were any delays to begin the season.
I'm still not certain we won't end up with clustered scheduling that has maybe 2 divisions playing at a common venue, which would allow for up to 10 games to be played between intra-division games and the 4 games each team schedules against the other division opponent.
September is a ways off, for sure, but the league would be wise to make sure they have something in place should a second wave reset our mitigation strategies.
There are som more leaks starting to come out about the schedule. There is one Twitter account that is saying that the Jags will play the Dolphins week 3 on Thursday Night Football. They referenced a reporter who works for the Miami Herald for this link. The game is supposed to be in Jacksonville.

It looks like the toughest part of the schedule is after the bye during the second half. (especially the matchups during the next five games after the bye, (including Green Bay, possibly Steelers, Browns and Vikings.)
3-3 before bye
3-7 after bye
Wait that can't be right? There's no stretch of 2 months where they're away
I know that the Jags schedule is tougher this year than it was last year's. But IMO, interestingly enough, it doesn't look quite as bad/tough now that it's finally been laid out for the season. I do wonder how they will end up faring. I hope they do well. Especially when I see the media continue to have extremely low expectations for them. Including Colin Cowherd, who predicted on today's show they would go 2-14. I mentioned this already in the predictions thread, but the national media's negative bias towards the Jags is very heavy handed/obnoxious. I hope it backfires against them.
It's a pretty friendly schedule, here's hoping the jags can pull out the win in some of the less daunting games before the bye. If we could go into the bye at 3-3, that could give us some momentum for the tougher stretch.
All a big if though.
I hate playing Indy in Week 17. It's always meaningless and they let us win to screw our draft position. Had we lost to them in 2019, we would have picked 6 and got Derrick Brown (DT Auburn -- the next warren sapp). Then prior to that, we beat them and they ended up with the Number 1 pick -- Andrew Luck !!! they are smarter than us.

"Smarter than us" or not, there's no way in Hell that Rivers will "let us win".

IMO, it doesn't look like a full on murderers row that people were predicting it to be. It looks a bit more manageable than that. And I agree that the Jags definitely need to try and get as many wins as they can during the early part of the schedule. Collect whatever wins they can before they get to the bye at the halfway point. They definitely don't need to be going into the bye with a lot of losses, especially with the toughest stretch coming afterwards.
