Man...Beurerlein still sounds salty 25 years later.....

Pretty interesting article - Beurerlein gives the impression that going to the Jags set him back whereas no matter which team he would have gone, he would be second fiddle to either Brunell or Kerry Collins. Yes, perhaps the Jags and Pathers approached development (win now vs build and win later) but he wasn't good enough (long term) to be a good fit on any NFL team. Funny though how he implied the Jags not being a good fit for him, lead to his lack of success --- at least there's a hint of that in the article

More or less.  Overall body of work: the guy parlayed a middling college career (55% completion pct, 6500 total passing yards, 27/44 TD to Ints TOTAL in 4 years) into a 17 year NFL career, Super Bowl ring, Pro Bowl nod, and a fairly successful NFL and college broadcasting career. Focus on the positives bro.

It wasn't that Beurelein was bad, it was just that both Brunell and Collins were better. A LOT better. Their careers proved it out.

As for Carolina having more long term success, yes, that's true, as is the drill sergeant reputation of Coughlin.

Carolina had the advantage of veteran all-star GM Polian out of the gate. Coughlin was a first-time NFL coach and GM, who did admirably but his lack of cap management and go-all-in-to-win-now mentality caught up to him. Polian's successor, Marty Hurney, is/was also a better GM than the combo of Gene Smith and Shack Harris.

Beurlein sucked in every aspect of the game of football.

And Carolina has zero success. Success is Superbowl Wins. Everything else is garbage
