There's no study or poll to disprove your opinion so you feel comfortable presenting it as a possibility. But we know it's not true. Common sense and a shared sense of patriotism and loss between the boroughs of NY, who were victimized by that tragedy more than anyone, and the rest of the country dictate that a simple and inexpensive memorial to the victims of 9/11 is broadly supported. But if they do think the towers of light are still worth doing, then de Blasio just earned himself a big black eye, and it might come up during the re-election campaign.
The founding fathers of this country gave us local government with local elections.
I don't see why we can't just let this play out the way it's going to play out and keep our opinion to ourselves.

which is why we have federally funded in federally organized memorial events as well.
And there's also privately-funded memorials.

I'm not sure, but I think Bill de Blasio has a better understanding of their feelings than either of us. When politicians do something unpopular, sometimes that's brave. Or it's just stupid. Canceling this show is either something he really believes in for some reason, and he's willing to risk his reputation over, or it's something that New Yorkers don't think is a big deal. maybe they'll get some letters and phone calls from people that they know our residents, telling them that they made a mistake. Maybe they'll reverse the decision if that happens.

Either way, the opinion of two dudes in Florida just does not matter. If they wanted to cancel the federal memorial, then I would have a pretty strong opinion... Personally I think 9/11 should be a national holiday.

It's obvious he prides himself on being the clever contrarian. Unfortunately he increasingly chooses indefensible ground on which to plant his flag. But as I stated before, he is keenly aware there is no concrete way to disprove his argument, as implausible as it is.

He's doing it for strictly political purposes. It really is that simple. Regardless, it's irrelevant now because it will happen.

My concern is more people like Mike minimizing the importance of 9/11 to their children and the long term impact on our country.
