Unions have been protecting bad employees for years. Nothing at all new there. A union breaking ranks from the democratic party however is somewhat new and an oddity.

He's on their side. They don't want bad cops to be fired, and he never speaks ill of any police incident.

I love cops who enforce the law, and I at least empathize with protestors who obey the law. If I'm down with their cause, I love them too.
I hate cops who break the law, and I hate protestors who break the law.
This is only difficult to understand if you don't want to understand it.
