Full Version: So what have we learned after the first day of free agency?

The Jags came in having the most free cap space.  With that said, no doubt the bad publicity from Ramsey, Yannick, Coughlin, and being 1-15 turned off some free agents no matter how much cash was offered.  After having a quite first tampering day they rebounded with a very solid second day.    The personal the Jags have picked at this point are painting a picture for this rebuild.  The way I see it....

Base 3-4 defense:  Starting with Joe Cullen along with the big uglies they have signed in free agency makes it pretty clear.  I am personally excited to see Josh Allen and Chaisson standing up using their athletic abilities rushing the QB.  I spoke of it last year these guys would play much better with their hands out of the grass.  We will see it this year.

Meyer likes this offensive line:  It appears that Cam Robinson is going to be the blindside protector for Lawrence.  I got to admit I am torn on Robinson. Overall he has been mediocre if I am being kind. What scares me is I have seen games were Robinson has just gotten whipped most of the entire game.  The upside is he is young, has good size, good run blocker, no where near the cost of say a Trent Williams.  Taylor on the other side is even more suspect.  He was beat like a drum last year.   The interior is solid.  To be determined if the jags invest an early draft pick or trade for any upgrades.

Jags must(hope) have a plan for the tight end group:  The group right now is razor thin. Oliver was traded but he gave us no production anyway. O'shaughnessy is back but he's a 2nd rate tight end.  It's puzzling to me that some decent tight ends signed elsewhere for very affordable contracts.  I hope they are either talking a trade or really like a couple in the draft.

Secondary went from a negative to a positive: Henderson will have a year under his belt along with the signings of Shaquill Griffin and Rayshawn Jenkins should improve this unit.  Sidney Jones is also a young player that looks to have promise. The jags are likely to draft one or two additions to this secondary.

Special Teams was not ignored: A couple of these guys the Jags signed are primarily special team specialist.  Field position is even more important with a young QB.

Jags are not desperate:  They didn't break the bank. The regime didn't have any 9 figure mega deals. To this point they have been pretty conservative considering the money they have.  It appears the plan is to patch the holes with veterans, draft well, and carry lots of this money next year.  It could change but we shall see...
Good post, one thing to add is our dline is much stronger with the addition Alu, Browm, and RRH.
