In an interview with axios.com, Pensacola congressman Matt Gaetz says he went to the FBI alleging he was the victim of an extortion scheme, and found out he was already the subject of an investigation of federal sex trafficking charges. Gaetz says he was a "generous boyfriend" but insists he did nothing illegal.

Tucker Carlson says Matt Gaetz interview was ‘one of the weirdest’ he has done

Mr Carlson said Tuesday night’s appearance was “one of the weirdest interviews I’ve ever conducted”.

The network requested an appearance from Mr Gaetz following The New York Times story, Carlson said, “on the certainty that there is always more than what you read in the newspaper”.

“I don’t think that clarified much,” he added.

The investigation is said to have started during the Trump administration which should, but probably won't, eliminate claims of political motivation.

I have never defended governor Cuomo either.

It's pretty hard to extort somebody when the authorities have already heard the story and seen the evidence.
The most likely explanation is Gaetz is making up the extortion angle to cover his butt.

Who leaked the story? The DOJ, FBI, or Gaetz? Also if you read it, he isn't the subject of the investigation but part of it. Some associate is charged with trafficking and other stuff and looks like they maybe looking at others to see if there was anything there.

Extortion doesn't cover you, it makes you look guilty if you pay to cover something up. I have no clue if he did anything but it should be rather simple to pull travel records to see if he traveled with a 17 year old like they say. The DOJ and FBI are full of people that don't care about justice and just want to use their power to hurt the other party. Either way it is a good outcome. The FBI & DOJ get exposed for their corruption or Gaetz is exposed as a pedophile.

According to the Washington Post, Gaetz is the target of a child trafficking investigation, and someone did find out and try to blackmail him.
