Panthers vs Vikings on Sunday should be fun. Of course it's the only game I'm going to miss this season.

I can't justify ranking the Jags ahead of any team, besides MAYBE the Browns.

Bills and Bears have roster issues that can't be fixed. SOME of our issues can be fixed.

I'd say their fires are blazing already. Our dumpster is just starting to smoke.....
I would say the Jags are dead last.

C'mon man...

Browns have been bad and lost 2 QBs now.

Bills just haven't been able to get it going and their D looked pretty bad, so they fired their OC....

We have reason to cling to 28-29ish....
Jags over the Saints? Lol, Brees would eat this defense alive

He would and he already has.

Im talking about this year.  Right now
1. Patriots - It's mostly about the coach. Sure Brady is pretty good, too.

2. Steelers - Kind of by default. Pats and Steelers are a tier apart in the AFC ... and no one in the NFC looks all that elite right now.

3. Panthers - Except maybe these guys. No where near as convincing as Pats and Steelers, and someone's gotta win the NFC.

4. Texans - Other than the obvious exception of not being defending champions, what do they do worse than Denver? Do people really believe Siemian would have started over Osweiler if they had the choice?

5. Broncos - Just finished proving that defense still wins championships, and the defense is still real; but free agent losses should mean a slight step back.

6. Bengals - Struggled with this one, as Cincy's never been able to deliver in the clutch. But unlike the next team, they're not injury-ridden ...

7. Vikings - The NFC race *could* have been interesting this season. But at some point Sam Bradford will be Sam Bradford. Maybe AP will come back soon.

8. Cardinals - Their top ten resume is basically just whipping Tampa Bay and inertia from last year. Looked horrible all preseason. Looked flat week 1. Not a fan of having them this high, but someone has to top the middle-of-the-pack muddle.

9. Jets - Nice defense. Lost by a point to the Bengals, which is worth ... something I guess.

10. Giants - The NFC Least drives this ranking. Not convinced they could consistently beat the 5 teams ranked below them, but someone gets a playoff ticket out of the division and they seemed best positioned.

11. Packers - Uninspiring play so far. Years of consistently fielding good teams and a "quality loss" to the Vikings keep them from plummeting too much.

12. Chiefs - Similar to the packers, but with fewer years of fielding good teams.

13. Eagles - More NFC Least boosting. The Bears and Browns are certainly both bottom five teams (and some might even argue 31 and 32), so don't count me on the "Wentz is amazing" train just yet. Look for Pittsburgh to humiliate them. But they're 2-0 and that counts.

14. Ravens - Beating bottom ten teams by less than a touchdown isn't impressive, but it's still 2-0.

15. Colts - They need their corners back desperately. This ranking assumes that happens soon. Real soon.

16. Seahawks - Still get unfair ref treatment for their constant mugging of receivers, but gimpy Russell Wilson has shown their O can't move without him.

17. Chargers - I want to put them higher, but they keep losing their playmakers to injury. Rivers is the man, though.

18. Falcons - They won, so I gotta put them ahead of ...

19. Raiders - They won, so I gotta put them ahead of ...

20. Saints - Week 2 started to show that maybe they could do something on defense.

21. Bucs - How did this team beat the Falcons? Looked atrocious in week 2. Speaking of which ...

22. Jaguars - Writing them off entirely is an overreaction to a bad week 2 loss. It was a road game blowout. These things happen from time to time. At least it wasn't to a bottom-third team. Looked OK vs the Packers.

23. Titans - Beating Detroit by 1 isn't an enormous statement, but it is enough to get them ranked over ...

24. Lions - Looked good against the Colts. Then looked crappy against the Titans. But Indy's corners are ravaged, so I have to discount their win over Indy a little.

25. Cowboys - Mediocre rookie QBs usually look good for several games. This team is an O-Line, but at least they have something. And an overrated WR.

26. Dolphins - Ugh, from here down it's not good. Another year, another "this team has so much promise" failure to show.

27. 49ers - Blowout win over the Rams has them ranked higher than their 30ish ranked talent deserves.

28. Rams - Still haven't scored a touchdown. Probably aren't this good, but beat the Seahawks, which earns a little separation from the dregs below.

29. Bills - They were in both games. They fired the wrong coach, and that's not going to help in the locker room. Hopefully this time the league learns the Ryan brothers are pretty terrible.

30. Washington - Bad. Really bad.

31. Bears - Worse.

32. Browns - Let me know how getting rid of all your talent when you're already a bad team works out for you, Cleveland.

I'm going to remain positive, but if I was ranking teams I would seriously put them dead last.

We got thumped.
We're dead last in AFC South power rankings.

Sarg,  though what you said about the Colts CBs  ( it also applied to their Safety situation )  has been the case,   the same can be said for the Lions LBs in Week # 2 vs. Tennessee.

Pro Bowl caliber Weakside LB DeAndre Levy missed the game with a quad injury.   His replacement in the base Defense,  promising rookie 5th Round pick Antwione Williams, and starting Strongside LB Kyle Van Noy suffered injuries in the game.   With two other LBs already sidelined with injuries long before this game,   other than starting MLB Tahir Whitehead,  the Lions were down to former LB Brandon Copeland ( who is now a DE )  and former Jaguars LB Thurston Armbrister as the team's remaining LBs when Tennessee mounted their comeback.   Armbrister wasn't even on the Game Day roster the previous game and was with the team less than 2 weeks after being claimed off waivers.   Despite all of this,  losing this game is inexcusable and the 24th ranking is justified.   But I think it was worth mentioning in context to your correct observation about the Colts CB situation.

Yeah, that's always going to be a post-week 2 power ranking issue. Very small sample sizes mean you're forced to overestimate something. My gut tells me the Lions are better than the Titans, and had it been a road loss for the Lions I might have discounted it a little. Also, I'm not sure the Titans deserve so high a ranking as 23, but I couldn't credibly put the Lions any lower or the Titans any higher.

But the truth is it wasn't the Lions defense that failed them. As you note, 15 points against a bad-ish team at home is a showing worthy of a 23-25 ranking. And worse, it directly counters the week 1 takeaway - that the Lions offense might be pretty good. I suppose its possible I'm underestimating the Titan's D prowess, but I don't really think that.

It kind of left me with a dilemma regarding the Colts. They have to be somewhere, and ultimately I think the Colts are more likely to be the Texans' competition in the AFC South than the Jags or Titans. I'll certainly agree that the two game sample doesn't support 15. It's mostly the promise of Luck and getting the CBs back. They could plummet if they fail in week three and the Texans can get it done vs the Pats. 3 games back in after week 3 is an enormous handicap - only a Colts sweep of the Texans, or a major Texans season-ending injury (Osweiler, Hopkins, Watt), would likely restore their relevance at that point.

What killed the Lions Offense more than anything against Tennessee was penalties.   Three TDs were wiped out because of penalties,  with two on back to back plays.   One of them was a highly questionable Pass Interference penalty against Eric Ebron.   Combining this with 4 easy dropped passes and 3 balls that could have caught,  too many opportunities were left on the field.  Now with RB Ameer Abdullah being placed on I.R.,  at least for the next 7 games,  so much is going to depend on whether rookie 7th Round RB Dwayne Washington is up to handling a more expanded role.   Washington's big play ability,  both on Offense and as a Kickoff Returner is evident.    With Ziggy Ansah dealing with an ankle injury from very early this game and the Lions injuries at LB,  the team's Offense and Special Teams might have to carry the team for a while.

Tennessee certainly has talent limitations on Defense but Def. Coordinator Dick Lebeau is doing his usual masterful job.   W/o enough playmakers at WR though,  I would be surprised if Tennessee wins more than 6 games.   They clearly are in the rebuilding stage.

Until the Colts get relatively healthy in the Secondary,   they are in serious trouble.  Especially,  considering that their Defense far from stellar to begin with.   As differential of a QB Andrew Luck is capable of being,  especially with the playmakers he has to throw the ball to,  barring the Texans season being derailed by injury,   I would be surprised if the Texans don't have a better record than the Colts when the dust settles on the regular season.
