Last season, undrafted Ben Ellefson started 4 games and Tyler Davis started 0.  Castoff Eric Saubert was active in an equal number of games (8) and had more receptions (3) than Tyler Davis (0).  For someone that was a draft pick, Tyler should have gotten greater activity over these 2, which he didn't.  It makes me speculate he was/is underwhelming and a long shot this year.

He was injured all last season.

No.  He was game active in weeks 3 through 10, and then in games 15 and 17.  The other games, he was on the inactive list, not any injured list.

I guess we will see.

Offense (24):

QB (2) - Lawrence, Beathard
RB (4) - Robinson, Etienne, Hyde, Armstead
WR (6) - Chark, M. Jones, Shenault, Johnson, Agnew, Camp
TE (3) - O’Shaughnessy, Manhertz, Farrell
OL (9) - Robinson, Taylor, Norwell, Linder, Cann, Little, Shatley, Bartch, Richardson

Defense (26):

DL (8) - Brown, Hamilton, RRH, Smoot, Ward, Tufele, Costin, Gotsis
OLB (4) - Allen, Chaisson, Smith, Jacobs
ILB (4) - Jack, Schobert, D. Wilson, Quarterman
CB (5) - Henderson, Griffin, Campbell, S. Jones, Herndon
S (5) - Jenkins, Cisco, Thomas, J. Wilson, Ford

Special Teams (3):

K - Lambo
P - Cooke
LS - Matiscik

-------------------------------------------------

IR - Moses

Traded - Minshew

Notable Cuts:
  • Four draft picks from last year:  Josiah Scott (4th), Jake Luton (6th), Tyler Davis (6th) and Chris Claybrooks (7th)
  • A third round pick from 2019:  Quincy Williams
  • A first round pick from 2018:  Taven Bryan
  • Starter from last year: Josh Jones
  • Free agent signing from this year:  Phillip Dorsett
  • Thor and Kid Rock Impersonator:  Andrew Wingard

I think Tyler Davis is going to ball out. Unless he has a bad training camp and pre season, I can't see him being cut.

I disagree.  No way Davis will beat our O'Shaughnessy for the receiving tight end spot with his 0 career catches.  Manhertz was signed by Meyer/Baalke and is clearly our blocking tight end.  That leaves Farrell who I don't think they would have used a fifth round pick on if they remotely liked Davis.  I believe Davis is still eligible for the practice squad, so that is a possibility.

BTW, I'm not mentioning any other tight end candidates.  There's a separate thread for that.
QB - Lawrence, Beathard
RB - Robinson, Etienne, Hyde, Armstead
TE - Ertz, O’Shaughnessy, Manhertz, Farrell, Tebow
WR - Chark, Shenault, Jones, Johnson, Agnew (RS), Dorsett or Camp
LT - Robinson, Little
LG - Norwell, Gray
C - Linder, Shatley
RG - Cann, Bartch
RT - Taylor, Richardson

Defense: 25

DE - Tufele, Bryan, Costin
NT - Brown, Hamilton
DE - Robertson-Harris, Ward, Gotsis
OLB - Allen, Smoot (versatility to move inside)
MLB - Schobert, Quarterman
WLB - Jack, Wilson, Moses (Jacobs if Moses to injured list)
OLB - Chaisson, Smith McCray
CB - Griffin, S.Jones
FS - Cisco, J.Wilson
SS - Jenkins, D.Thomas, Ford or Wingard
CB - Henderson
NB - Campbell, Herndon

Special Teams: 3

K - Lambo
P - Cooke
LS - Matiscik
If I had to pick the UDFA roster surprises, I predict Herndon gets beat out by DJ Daniel, and assuming his knee is okay, Dylan Moore beats out Quarterman.
Espn has our new 3-4 defense..

Aside from Taven Bryan being listed as a starter, it seems like a reasonable take today.
Does it seem like they got Tater Cakes Bryan and DaVon Hamilton mixed up?

Yes, but it would make heads explode if they got it right so I'll pretend they know what they're doing for a while.

For the same reasons I expect Tebow and Wingard on the 53-man roster.

Yeah.

I'd have Taven Bryan down the depth chart in rotation-land, Davon Hamilton at both rotational NT and DT, and you could also probably go ahead and pencil in a start for Cisco at FS over Jarrod Wilson.
