If you think he will have any influence in the draft decisions...

I’m not impressed with Baalke’s record. I like his value based philosophy, but when it comes to making pics he’s not good, worse than Caldwell.
This was my biggest concern when we hired him. It does worry me a bit, this year we need to hit on the first 4 picks and realistically get decent production out of the next 3.

The odds of the first 7 picks being "successful" starters are very slim.  Any player taken in the 1st round has only just over 50% chance at being a successful starter.  The odds drop off substantially after round 1.
As long as 1.1 is successful I'm happy.

I wouldn't worry about Baalke's drat history too much. Most people seem to think it's Meyer that is the ultimate decision maker after Khan.

That’s probably even worse. We’ll end up with mainly Ohio State and Florida players simply because Urbs has the “inside scoop” from his network. Can we hire Caldwell to replace Baalke? Dave could run the scouting dept and make picks starting in the second round. First round picks would be made via consensus polling of season ticket holders. Last year we would’ve selected Tristan Wirfs and Justin Jefferson based on what this board wanted.
Baalke loves drafting ACL tears so maybe we should be penciling in Dickerson at 33.

The good thing is it won't be all Baalke setting the bigboard.  It will be Baalke, Meyer, along with the scouts in a collective group when making the board thank god.
My favorite pick from Baalke was Navorro Bowman even when they had Patrick Willis
My personal opinion is that 25th pick should be used to get more offensive line help if one of the better linemen falls.

Yea I agree the likely hood of what I said is slim to none. However we need this to be a blockbuster draft outside of the TLaw pick. Let’s all cross fingers and hope that it happens.

based on that, would you say guys like Doyle at Iowa, Herman (formerly) at Texas, Fickell at Cincy would be considered 'within his network'?

I'd say Schiano at Rutgers but 1) like farts anyone from Rutgers is gonna be worth taking and 2) screw him forever
His draft history with the 49ers is painfully bad.  I hope Urban handles the draft while Baalke is primarily there to manage the cap or do something other than draft players.

That pick was made prior to Baalke taking over as GM of the 49ers .... lol
Why did we hire someone with such a poor record in the first place?

Oh right.. Khan already knew who he wanted at HC, and what GM worth their salt wants to be tied to an HC they didn't choose?
The whole idea of getting rid of Caldwell was to upgrade the position... we didn't do that. I actually started to miss Caldwell the moment they announced Baalke was gonna be the GM.
I think we blew our cheap budget on the HC so we went low on GM. As you all know, the Jags have been one of the lowest paying teams when it comes to HC salary over the history of its existence.

I wouldn't worry about Baalke's draft history too much. Most people seem to think it's Meyer that is the ultimate decision maker after Khan.
Meyer has expressed on more than one occasion how important the first four picks in the draft are to the success of the Jaguars. There is no doubt he is very involved in those selections and the rest of the draft. By the time they finish the draft board Meyer will ensure that all the players meet his Standard. I wouldn’t worry too much about Baalk’s draft history.

I think what happened was to save his job/elevate himself, Baalke recommended Urban Meyer. Remember that Baalke loved himself some Chip Kelly and Jim Harbaugh (before their strong personalities clashed). He sold Khan on Urban. This clouded Khan's vision. Khan should've kept Caldwell over the scouting dept, and just given Baalke a consulting bonus for his "good idea." Caldwell could've worked with Urban and handled being GM in name only, as that's what he was under Coughlin.
