Well they were comparing him to Kamara even being close to the type of back Kamara is would be great.

At 1-15, we can't turn up our noses at anyone who could be a difference maker.

You're making my point. We NEED several good players - so it makes no sense to get a good player at a position where we already have a good player. We need good players in other positions more.

Makes NO sense to have more than one good player at a position?

So because Josh Allen is a good OLB, we shouldn't have another good OLB?  Because we had Jalen Ramsey, it made no sense to pursue Bouye? If Robinson gets injured, would we NOT benefit from Etienne?  Minnesota had Cris Carter and Jake Reed.  Under your rationale, it made NO sense for them to draft Randy freaking Moss.

The OT’s that you guys are drooling over are fools gold. I’m tired of drafting tackles. Give me some DANG playmakers!

The last OT's we drafted in the first round were in 2013 and 2009 before that. That's a long time ago, but you're tired of drafting OT's? Are you living in the past? It's 2021 now. The reason our current OT's stink is because we waited too long in the draft and we were left with guys who had slow feet and poor technique. Maybe it's time we actually stopped worrying about what happened 8 years ago and addressed a real need with an elite player.

By the way, you can't have offensive playmakers without good O-Linemen blocking for them. Ask a Bengals fan about that.

I was curious and looked up the top 10 rushers in the NFL from last year.  The breakdown by round was as follows:

1st Round: 3
2nd Round: 3
3rd Round: 2
4th Round: 0
5th Round: 1
6th Round: 0
7th Round: 0
Undrafted: 1 (James Robinson)

They do drop occasionally (as do all positions), but I'm not sure good running backs fall as much as generally perceived.

Don't bother with rationale.. It doesn't work on some here..

I think it's a very good pick.  Pre-draft, this was one of the players I wanted.

My guess is the Jaguars brass was concerned that the Bills or Bucs were realistic candidates to draft Travis Etienne in the latter part of Round 1. This, in addition to a team trading up from Round 2 to draft him.

Before the draft began, I thought the most likely landing spot for Etienne was the Jets taking him at # 23. They decide to help Zach Wilson in a different way, with their trade up for USC G Alijah Vera-Tucker.
It was purely a BAP pick. There’s nothing else to discuss.

We passed on Big Ben bc we had Brian Leftwitch

I don't know why some people are so obsessed with the Hyde signing.  He wasn't signed because he was "special".  He was signed as a stop gap player as our third string running back.  Barring injury to Robinson, he was never going to be a significant part of the offense.  As for performance, it's not as bad as some portray.  Hyde had a bad season in Jacksonville, but the four seasons surrounding it were much better.  In 3 out of those 4 seasons, Hyde had over 900 rushing yards and in the fourth year (where he had fewer carries), he still averaged 4.4 yards per carry.  He's a similar style running back to Robinson which I think made him appealing to Meyer.  If Robinson goes down mid-game, you don't have to change your game plan.

Agreed.

Besides, it isn't as if Hyde couldn't be cut if worst comes to worst.

Not only is his contract not particularly onerous, we have way more than enough cap room to absorb any penalties.

Every amateur mock draft had us taking Etienne or Barmore.

It wasn't because of BAP.

It's cause they said.. well Etienne was Trevor's RB so he will feel more comfortable in the awful college atmosphere Urban wants to instill.... #becausejaguars

Yeah, because Tampa Bay could actually use a lead back. We already had one. All we needed was a complimentary back with speed and hands and those guys could be had later in the draft. This was a reach pick for us.
Is there anything this team does that you like.

I know he liked the Davon Hamilton pick last year and TL this year.

Honestly I don't know why the new regime likes the current Oline but they have a plan. We will have to watch and see if it works out.

They have a way they want to do things with speed and a style of play. If it doesn't work then they will be gone. To be honest, last year's team could have won a few more games and Minshew could have been better protected better but....

The coaching sucked, the game plans were awful and the execution was pitiful. The QB play was suspect. That was a questionable defense as well that got slightly better through the season.
