It's been known for a while now that the Jags have been one of the worst teams in the league at screens. Corey Grant is the only RB that has had success at a RB screen since MJD. TLaw used screen plays more than any QB in college last year and he got Etienne back along with Shenault who I think will be used on WR screen plays as well. Just something to look for and something we have lacked for years now
Exactly. Even when we had a shifty back that could catch (Corey Grant), our coaching staff was too stupid to identify the benefit (reference: Jags vs Pats 2nd half of the AFC Championship Game). Otherwise, our strategy has been to use our interior RBs for everything (running Robinson and Fournette into the ground and utilizing them for screens). We've never really had any change of pace RBs in a while.

Our best RB duo since MJD and Taylor and I would put us top 3 in the league now

I think the problem in the past has been one of field compression. You can't use screens effectively when all the defenders are staying near the line of scrimmage and keying on your running back. Screens work best when you can actually pass down the field and defenders are paying more attention to the quarterback than the running back. So the jaguars should definitely be better on the screen game assuming Lawrence forces the defense to pay more attention to the down field passing game.

It's most effective when teams are blitzing the QB with more defenders

The problem is it would be far better for the teams success if we were top 3 in the league in literally any other position group instead.
They better learn very quickly how to succeed on screens, because bubble screens were Bevell's favorite play to use in Seattle. It seems like he would use them 8-9 times a game.

QB timing and ball placement have been sorely lacking even though Minshew was a big step up from Bortles on those plays.
Lacking a legit 3rd down receiving back has also contributed and Etienne should change that.
Would love to see this become a strength for this new offense.
Previous offense probably thought draw plays on 3rd down were the same as screens.
I really hope TLaw can get enough protection to open up the playbook. The game planning has been lacking for years and years.
