While I don't believe we need another qb, the fact that I never see an audible is troubling to me. I'm watching a clip of Wentz audible as a rookie and we struggle to still get lined up in enough time...

I would think he would have more command of this offense by now...

Has Blake Bortles ever been the Jaguars starting QB in a game in which the team led by 14 or more points?   I can't recall a game that fits that description.

I'm very interested to see what Blake Bortles does when the Jaguars Defense is at the level that the team builds double digit leads with some regularity and has a relatively healthy pounder like Chris Ivory to further help compliment the team's passing game.

Buffalo and Indianapolis games last season, but I agree with your overall sentiment though.
All you can do is laugh at this point haha

I don't think so. Our offense has been putrid to start games during the Gus/Blake era, as below shows. And we know that TD stat ain't being skewed by a lot of rushing TDs early in games either.

Blake Bortles' TD/INT by quarter (career):

1st: 3/5

2nd: 14/12

3rd: 11/6

4th: 19/14

I wouldn't even count these in the sense that he meant it. Buffalo was up in the 2nd quarter until EJ Manuel went on that turnover for TD fest (certainly not Blakes doing), and the Colts were beating us 13-9 at halftime until we poured it on in the 2nd half.

I'm pretty sure Blake has had zero games where he game out of the gates nicely, built a lead, and carried/preserved the lead throughout.

Thanks for the reminder about those games.   W/o saying,  these weren't typical games as one game became much closer than it looked like it would be and the other one became a rout after being a close game.

The 1st QTR numbers are surprising on this end.  If the first quarter numbers don't improve soon,  that will likely be a major reason why major coaching changes are made with the Jaguars during or after the season.   With during the season the likely outcome.    Having said that,  having Chris Ivory on the field could go along way in putting the Jags Offense in more favorable game situations throughout all parts of games.

Oh yeah that's only updated through the 1st Q INT last game too, so add another 2nd Q INT and 2 more 4th Q TDs. Makes it look even worse for Blake's early game production. Updated fully:

I just feel this may be another coaching issue. Instead of starting the game firing we try to play ball control. We don't start throwing consistently until later.
He has to get better in the first half bottom line, he did the same thing in college.  It seems to be his MO not necessarily on the coaching.   Its not necessarily bad to be better in the 2nd half, but you have to at least be adequate in the first and not dig a hole with the TO's, and that is not even considering how his 4th quarter stats might have benefited from the defense playing it safe because they have a sizable lead.  Bottom line at this point in his career the consistency and mistakes are the biggest issues for him.  He can make the best plays, but right now he isn't doing that enough and regularly to be considered an above average qb in the league.

As with most things, the truth/blame is somewhere in the middle.

Agreed
I just dont like his game. You cant teach poise and accuracy.
If we could have managed to answer back after SD's first TD, I think the outcome of the game would have changed. The moment the Charger's realized, "oh, this is the same ol sorry Jags that showed up today", then they proceeded to have their way with us
The QB is not the issue dude...
Martineau was going on about Blake on the radio today. Saying Blake had his worst game as a Jag and he played the Chargers better in his first official start than he did yesterday.

Answer to OP:

HELL NO.

This is more evidence of The Flat Gus Effect. Ol' Puddin' Head wears his team out dancing around on the sidelines before kickoff with his "I Believe In Victory" foolishness then they go in the tank for the first 20 minutes. Every week. Every game. Every season.

Unfortunately you can't teach perspective and Common Sense to certain posters on this forum and that's including you.
Like I've been saying....Bortles is a knucklehead

he's going to keep slinging INTs like it's his business
