Biden OKs Amazon 'Radar' That Will Let Company See What You Do in Bed

George Orwell’s classic novel “1984” was so eerily prescient that it’s almost cliché to cite it now — but “Orwellian” is the only way to describe a new device that will let Amazon know exactly what you’re doing in bed.

Of course he did.. I'm sure that radar is fixed to view more children's bedrooms than parents..
Come on, guys. Surely you have better reading comprehension than this.
Regardless...

1984 is here.

It’s like boiling a frog Marty and you are the frog.
I used to be a real "techie geeky" guy, but I saw a long time ago how it could/would be used for really bad purposes.  It's not the fact that "smart" devices are a haven for hackers that have malicious intent, it's more the fact that some of the greatest hackers work for the government.

People have gotten really lazy.  Why get up off of your fat [BLEEP] to turn the lights on or adjust the thermostat in your home?  You can simply tell "Alexa" or some other "smart" device to do it.  Why drive your car when you can have a "self-driving" car?  Why bother to take a bit of time to vacuum your home when you can have a robot that does it for you and on top of that tell "Alexa" to start the robot?

I can understand the novelty of having such devices, but at this point people know what you are doing.  Knowledge is power.

How is this any worse than using a cell phone that passes on so much more information to both the cell phone manufacturer and the cell service provider.  They know where you are all the time, what apps you use, what you browse.

Knowledge is money.

I think we should just ban all hidden collection of data. It will make apps cost more, but do you really think these big companies need this kind of access to your personal life? They are literally creating algorithms to modify our behavior and make the rich richer.
America will not be the pioneer in big tech reform, because the American Left is deeply aligned with Big Tech -- it has thrown out principle that comes from idea of the common good. These corporations figured out all they had to do is adopt a Woke ideology and support the Democrats, and our government will not stand against them. It's corporatism, plain and simple.

The best reforms will certainly not come from China. End of paragraph.

I think perhaps Europe will overcome its socialist tendencies and continue to be the leader in establishing rules for all free persons to follow in the harvesting of data.

You know your boy DeSantis invests major Floridian taxpayer money into Amazon, Google, Twitter and Facebook, right?

It's not a left vs right thing.

It is just a money thing across the board.
Despite the ridiculous topic/premise of this thread, data-harvesting and the influence of big tech on voters is a major issue for all of us regardless of affiliation and philosophy.

I suppose the implication of my post is "and the Republicans will not get anything done, either." But I do believe the tribal, divided nature of our times means that voters on the Left will not get outraged, or motivated, as they might normally tend to do. Our brains are now filtering through a tribal, partisan lens -- if Google and Amazon signal they are on the right side, even individuals will not get outraged at them. And so we can hardly expect politicians to get fired up and protect us when we, the citizens, are comfortably tyrannized.

I have heard people that I have known for many years to be free speech advocates, or generally on the Left, etc. talk about Big Tech, and they say "Well, they are private corporations, they can do whatever they want." It's chilling to hear them throw out all thought and principle -- just because the virtue "teams" are currently aligned a certain way. More than ever before, I now understand how the tyrannical governments of the past (Venezuela, Cambodia, etc) got into power -- it was with half the population cheering it on. It's like Pogo said -- we have seen the enemy and it is us.

Google already knows what you are doing in bed in conjunction with those websites you are hitting up each night.
What do you need the websites for if you're doing it? I guess I watch fishing videos when I want to become a better fisherman....

Yeah, but once you graduate to a Pocket Bass then you're just hopelessly over the edge.
