Saturdays preseason game. How do we feel about this? Man i am salivating to get a lookat Trevor with the ones. Hopefully he does play him with the ones and not the twos. Dont want to see Trevor behind the second OL in a game situation.
I don't like it. Why? we all know Minshew is not gonna start regular season games unless something happens to Trevor. No big deal though.
It's preseason. Not a big deal.
The focus should be on preparing Trevor to play the season. I doubt such a move helps with that goal, but it certainly wouldn't be the first time Meyer comes across looking completely lost.
I get what Meyer is trying to do, but at some point you gotta say that getting Tlaw as many reps as possible with the players he will be starting with is more important than this charade of competition.
Also, I haven't seen yet where Meyer explicitly said Minshew was going to start just that it hadn't been decided yet (I think I actually saw where they said the coaches were going to talk it over tonight). If there has been more info that I missed please link it.

This is what I saw too.
They’re both going to play and neither has been named starter.
I can see why UM would do this. Typically in the first preseason games, the reserves get far more snaps than the starters. To the extent he wants TL to get more work for TL this makes sense. But I don't like the idea of TL getting extended time behind a second team or worse OL against fringe players teeing to make names and notoriety for themselves.
This isn't a big deal. It's probably better for TL to cut his teeth in his first NFL game situation against back ups.
I am sure he will be getting plenty of reps with the first string as the preseason progresses.
One benefit I see from this is that we will find out if we can block their pass rush before we put TL in there.

So then we put TL behind the 2nd string OLine? Or do you think the starting OLine plays for both Minshew and TL?
I would rather Lawrence just play with the starting OLine or not play at all.
Minshew is the backup, regardless of who starts this first preseason game.

Has he actually made that decision? I can't find anything on the internet about Minshew starting.

yeah, I see it as either a rotating basis or 1-2 series for the shew, anotther 2 or 3 for TL and then bring in the backups. Folks getting worked up over nothing, but that's how we garner pageviews and ad revenue to keep this place running
I kinda want to see what the shew does with the opportunity - does urbz give him a scripted run, run, pass, punt series, or let him open up the offense? Does he take advantage of the talent on the field?
I don't really care who starts. They're both going to get time with the ones. Let's see what each can do when it's their turn to take the snaps.

I don't really care what they do in the preseason, as long as Lawrence starts in the games that count.

I just dont see a point in Minshew starting... unless its solely to boost his trade value.
We have a generational rookie QB... we need to get him as many reps with the 1's as possible. Tired of them even splitting time in practice.
