If we were to take a QB early in this draft, to take over this season, what do you then do with Bortles?
Is he worth trading before the season starts? (He's got to be worth more than some of the other QBs who found jobs this spring) Do you start the season with him and then replace him if and when he makes mistakes? Or do you sit this young QB for the whole season and let Blake take us through 2017?
I think that last option could be very difficult for both QBs, because Blake isn't a veteran coming to the end of his career and he won't be wanting to give up the job, but throwing the new guy in at the deep end is also a risk.
Hypothetical, I know, but if you're going to argue the case for drafting a QB then it needs to be thought through...
Your not going to get much for Blake coming off the season he just had. I'd compare it to when a stock crashes after you bought high. I would guess you could get a 3rd-4th rounder at best.
We better at least get a 2nd round pick for Bortles or else he's staying put even with a new qb.
I also like the idea of a Peterman over say a guy like Watson because with Peterman you can start Bortles, and if Bortles turns it around and does ok there's no problem if Peterman is #2 or even #3 in succeeding years. The guy is a third round pick... no big deal. But if we trade up into round one for Watson, suddenly everyone will want to start the weak-armed qb creating distractions that Blake can do without.

Weak arm Brady says hi.

Weak arm (insert name of one of countless QBs who washed out) says hi. Not every weak armed QB is Tom Brady. Not all basketball players with the flu are Michael Jordan.

Very true as well. However how many of them excel during big games and are clutch?
To complete the if we concept: ...we are reaching and over-valuing these QBs. No need for a QB right now...
Even if Draft a qb round one. I still see Blake starting until he shows he can be beat. So in essence his job to lose. But don't think for a second if we start 0-3 or 1-4 the other qb wouldn't come in. Doug has benched the starter before. And wouldn't put it past him to do it again. If benefits team in whole.
And to the previous poster we haven't had a winning season or even half way decent since 07. So yea 10 years. But lets wait...
