Last night, I was watching NBC News, and they come on with this report about how black and brown people are being left out of all the reporting about missing people.  And they point to the Gabby Petito case as an example of how the news media focuses on one type of person while ignoring another type of person.  Which is all true, but what got me was, the people running that report (NBC News) are the same people who decided to go full-plane-crash-mode on Gabby Petito.  And they're the same people who go full-plane-crash-mode on every missing hot young blonde woman.  What chutzpah!  "Isn't this terrible what we're doing!  It's all society's fault."

I wanted to reach through the screen, grab Lester Holt by the lapels of that $5,000 suit, and say,

"Lester!  You're the one making these decisions, not me!  If what you're doing is wrong, why don't you stop doing it?"

I know I over-use the term "self-awareness," but Jeesus!  Where is the self-awareness?
We only provide news that people want to consume, so if they weren't so racist we would be able to cover missing black people.
It's to the point that when I hear the word racist in any way, shape or form I immediately turn off the conversation. The word and what it truly means has been so watered down that real issues that truly are racist or discriminatory towards minorities will be looked over without as much as a glance.
Your first problem is that you watch NBC News and Molester Holt..
Imagine being a news station and getting miffed at other people because you aren’t reporting the news.

self-awareness + professionalism + integrity < ratings
The funny part is that the news media didn't pick up on this. This was an internet driven phenomenon. She was a YouTube personality that had a following. People online started working together to solve her disappearance, and their pursuit of justice lead to the discovery of her body. It's an interesting story.
