That said, I always had enough common sense to not wear or brandish or decorate with any confederate symbols. Maybe someone would have demanded I apologize if I ever did something tone-deaf like that.
Not to get off topic of big black Richards, but when I had my roof redone earlier this year, the company had a can delivered (obviously). It was a black can. Their website was getBBC.(blah blah blah). Not that you can’t figure it out, but I’m not wanting a ban for trying to advertise. Trust me, we had our jokes about me having a BBC parked in the drive.

I have a great great great grandfather who owned slaves. I have the original bills of sale documenting the buying and selling of them. $800 for one of them. That's about $25,000 in today's money, which, if you consider how many slaves there were, shows how much money was tied up in slaves back then. Most of the wealth in the South was in the value of the slaves.
And before anyone asks, no, I do not feel responsible in any way for the actions of my ancestors. Nor am I ashamed of it. It's just interesting history.
But back to the original subject, it's true there are many black people descended from slave owners, and many white people descended from slaves.

I never said he should hate himself.
I said that I think he's a bad person. He can love himself all he wants but when you are happy that Colin Powell died because he's "not breathing our air" anymore, that makes you a bad person.

Lookup who was the 1st or one of the 1st slave owners in North America. Then look at how many people actually owned slaves. Slaves were costly, you have to feed them, take care of them so they don't die and lose your value, etc. A very small number of people could do that. It was cheaper to just pay people to do the work and not have all the sunk costs. Look at what was happening to slavery before the civil war.
It was a terrible thing that was done by people on both sides and the leaders on both side benefited.
The thing that most people don't realize regarding slavery is that slaves were basically treated like livestock. In most cases they were treated "well" by their owners and taken care of. Families and breeding was actually encouraged, though the result of breeding wasn't always "humane". Young children were often sold off much like calves from a cattle herd.
It doesn't make it right, but slaves were not treated in the way that has been portrayed in many Hollywood films with the whipping and beating. In many cases certain slaves were "beloved family members". Many of the women served as "nannies" and many of the men served as "foreman" on homesteads and basically ran the operation.
Again, I'm not by any means saying that slavery was right. All that I'm saying is that history has not exactly been taught correctly. Slaves were never abused.
