They Won The Xmas Lights Contest, Then The Judges Disqualified Them For Being Too “Political”

This past December 4 marked the tradition of Yorktown’s annual lighted boat parade. Captain Bill Berger took home the victory for his lighted display aboard “Southern Rock,” which was decked out with fir trees, Christmas lights, reindeers, and various political messages. However, Berger’s victory did not last long because his various messages were considered too political, which disqualified him from the prestigious Virginia tradition.

Fair enough. If we want a better society, we need to stop rewarding people for being a knob.

There was nothing wrong with his entry except that political speech is not permitted. The organizers clearly screwed up by allowing the entry at all. His boat was clearly the most popular and the winner. "You can't win because I don't approve of your speech" is a completely anti-American perspective.

So is not following the rules. If the boats were not supposed to contain political messages and he chose to ignore the rules, he should be disqualified. Rule breakers should not be rewarded. Doing so would send a very liberal message.

There was no rule until they realized they needed a rule after the fact.

The Yorktown Fund was willing to go along with the anti-Biden message until they realized that its political messages jeopardized their status as a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
