While still perverse, this probably doesnt tilt the scales as much as it would for an athletic competition. In fact, maybe not at all.

Men have a much wider standard deviation on a lot of measurables than women do.
With intelligence, the average woman is just as smart as the average man. But the least intelligent man is much less smart than the least intelligent woman, and the most intelligent man is much smarter than the most intelligent woman.

Purely an assumption, but it would likely be based on the observed distribution of intelligence in a sample population. Of course that wouldn't mean the absolutely smartest man is definitely smarter than the smartest woman given some population and point in time, it would just mean the likelihood of there existing a man at a given high IQ level is greater than the likelihood of a woman existing at that level in that population at that point in time.

Statisticians don't look at the least or the most.  They call those outliers and ignore them.  Instead, they look at percentiles.  The man with first percentile intelligence among men is not as smart as the woman with first percentile intelligence among women.

He poorly explained the studies, but it's a bell curve. Men have a flatter bell curve than women.

Men are better at everything apparently.
