Picking one in the first two rounds would be just as big a gamble as sticking with Blake and we could better use the draft picks elsewhere.


And if we picked one in the later rounds I doubt they'd see the field until the season was beyond recovery. If you're going to do that, you might as well wait until the 2018 draft.

If we wait until next year to pick a QB we're right back where we were when we over drafted bortles and were forced to play him earlier than we wanted to. And saying next years class is better is the same thing people said about this class last year.


I think this class is not prepared to start right away which you can say about 90% of the QBs that come out now bc of the offenses the college teams are running.


We need a guy who can sit and learn how to run a pro offense and I believe peterman is a perfect bridge QB who could possibly start this year if bortles proves he's not the guy. I also think Mahomes has the highest ceiling out of all the QBs this year and would love for the jags to take him if he falls to the early 20s.

We'll wait and see how this year's QBs turn out, but I'd be happier with someone like Darnold, Rosen, Falk or Mayfield than Nathan Peterman in 2018.


Besides, we'd probably need to use a 3rd round pick to get Peterman - is our roster so complete we can afford to draft a QB who might never get on the field?


In a way I think it makes more sense to draft a QB in the first or second round with the intention of moving on from Blake asap - if you think we would be a contender with average QB play (instead of the erratic BB) then maybe someone like Kizer will be adequate.

I agree on Peterman, but I'm not holding my breath getting him because I sense the Jaguars are planning to wait until round three, and I see him going mid-to-late round two.


 

As for Mahomes making it past Arizona and falling into the 20s... should this happen the Jaguars would have to at least fight off the Texans and Saints who surely have more intent to move up and get him. I don't see Mahomes making it to the Texans if they stay put.


 

The other qb they looked at is Watson, but he probably ends up on the Texans with Mahomes gone, and if he drops the Chiefs are more than ready to take him. The Jaguars might bank on the possibility that the Texans go Kizer over Watson... note that the Bears also really want Kizer and may move up for him... with Watson falling to the Chiefs. At that point, it's possible the Jaguars and Chiefs could work out a deal. I believe the Chiefs will take Watson if they stay put, however, I can also see them being even more tempted to trade down. I almost sense their interest in Watson and Kizer is largely a smokescreen so they can trade down.


 

 

All of that said, I'm not an advocate of moving up and getting a qb in this draft. You talk of the downside of waiting a year, but the upside is far improved talent. I'd rather have Derek Carr in his first season than Blaine Gabbert in his second season.

Plan B has been and always will be to meet at the top of the Wells Fargo building downtown for a brief social with Teal Kool-aid and butter cookies and then take the express elevator down to the street.

Actually, if someone could arrange for team related parties (draft, pre-season, etc.) to take place at the top of the Wells Fargo building that would be amazing.
