Man, this was my favorite era to watch football when I was growing up.  Loved the Jets, Chargers, Raiders...despised the Chiefs (I don't know why).

The Jets were my all-time favorite.  Saw a lot of the Jets as we were only 90 miles from New York and they always showed the games on NBC in Philly.  What a team.  Don Maynard, George Sauer, Matt Snell, Emerson Boozer, Namath.  Loved 'em.

Sad News.

The New York Jets from that era contributed greatly to the merger between the NFL and AFL being successful.  The Jets massive upset win over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III gave the AFL credibility amongst many that the league didn't have previously.  The Chiefs double digit upset over the Vikings in Super Bowl IV was the icing on the cake for the merger's successful transition.
That was a great Jets team. Didnt get many AFL broadcasts in Central Florida during that era, but I watched as many the Tampa affiliate would show.

The AFL was some great football.  It's what all of the 'new leagues' want to be.
