Marty didn't ask about any surge in sales. He asked why we would need to continue manufacturing guns, presumably after that surge had passed.
Take the L, dude.
What I was wondering about was, with 393 million guns in private hands in the United States, it seemed like at some point the market would be saturated and we could just sell guns to each other. Purely a business question.
A little research reveals that there are only about 10 million guns of all types manufactured and sold each year in the US. One has to assume that that amount would be absorbed by population growth, wear and tear, and collectors buying more guns. So my guess is that the gun manufacturing business is sustainable and the market will not become saturated.
